Error in my original edit note - of course I meant, "Move made without consultation or seeking consensus".

I have reverted the move to 'Sult'. The pronunciation is close to 'Sult' but it is rarely or never transliterated like this in Jordan. Roadsigns clearly use 'Salt' as does English Language literature on Jordan, e.g. the Rought Guide to Jordan, Lonely Planet Guide, etc. This is by far the most common spelling of the town's name in English. Pleased to hear the opinion of others. Please discuss and seek consensus before moving articles, this is wikipedia policy on article moves. Nick Fraser 17:20, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • This is also the only spelling I have found in Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names & Columbia Gazetteer of the World. Meateatingvegan (talk) 20:01, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Abdullah picked the city as the capital of his emerging emirate but later changed his mind and moved his compound and entourage to Amman when he and the notables of Salt had a disagreement."

The "disagreement" was of a rather blunt nature[edit]

I have no intention whatsoever of lèse majesté, but the wording, "disagreement", reminds me of the Communist-era joke about regime-owned newspapers reporting about certain events at the USSR-Chinese border. Pravda: "Our peaceful tractors answered with fire against the invading Chinese regiments." Peking Red Banner: "Our heroic rice farmers answered with fire and repelled the invading Soviet tanks." The Albanian Worker: "Conference on agricultural issues at the Soviet-Chinese border."

In short: did the Maghadan Palace spokesperson write this? Arminden (talk) 08:49, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

PS: Maybe one shouldn't pay attention to oral history, which has a different explanation for the Emir's rather sudden move out of Salt, but then one should not disregard the British imperial power in making decisions in mandated territories, see E. Rogan, The Making of a Capital: Amman, 1918-1928. Arminden (talk) 09:02, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Change of Mayor/ leader of Al-Salt[edit]

Hi, Al Ameer son, hope you are fine, I am Dove's talk, I saw you had edited this article in past so would like to request your help especially with this edit, it looks like كريم حياري probably adding their name as the leader of Al-Salt, I am not sure whether this edit is good faith or bad faith as it was reverted by ClueBot NG as vandalism. Your help in this regard will be appreciated. Many Thanks. Dove's talk (talk) 17:33, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Considering changing the title to Al-Salt[edit]

Hi guys, so the title As-Salt seems kinda inaccurate. The arabic السلط has the A ا and l ل sounds clearly. I know you pronounce it as As-Salt but I've never seen it written like that. Also the category page Category:People from Al-Salt has people from Al-Salt on it so this page needs to change or that does. Ty Chacabangaso (talk) 14:21, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Chacabangaso, Al Ameer son, and Dan Palraz: the article name should follow reliable English languages sources per Wikipedia:Article titles#Use English. The category name should then follow the article name. Could you all agree which article name is best? The history is
  • 25 March 2014‎ Al Ameer son moved Salt, Jordan to Al-Salt here
  • 29 January 2023 Dan Palraz requested a move from Al-Salt to As-Salt here and the article was moved here.

The form officially used by the city is literally As-Salt: https://www.visitas-salt.com/en It is also the form officially used by the Jordanian government when it inscribed the city as a World Heritage site: https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/689 Dan Palraz (talk)
