Though apparently contested, it would appear, reading from a translation of 1 Enoch 8, that is the product of collaboration between James C. VanderKam and George W.E. Nickelsburg, that Asael and what Wikipedia defines as Azazel are the same. According to the page Azazel in The Book of Enoch, Azazel is the fallen angel mentioned in 1 Enoch 8:1 who teaches men to form metal and women to adorn themselves. This discrepancy may well be accounted for by error on the part of those previously defining "Azazel in the Book of Enoch."

It would appear that the discrepancy here may be one of etimology. Further reading on the article regarding Azazel indicates that perhaps Shemihazah is who is being refered to in the Book of the Watchers. If this is the case, then the original writing regarding Azazel in "Azazel in the Book of the Watchers" is incorrect, as the author that piece is speaking of two different angels as one. The author maintains that "Azazel" is the leader of the fallen angels described in the passage, which is consistant with what is known about Shemiharah, however, the author's continuining to explain Azazel as having shown, as stated above, the making of weapons and adornment of women, is derived from a different watcher, Asael. I have not made the change to the article, however, awaiting some feedback.

It is confusing; in some sources Samyaza and Azael/Asael are one the same especially if you take under consideration historical evidence such as the pagan influence that the writters had at the time that the book of the watchers was written;

For exemple: the nomads at that time used to worship a God named Al-Uzza that was known by Syrian women to be the one to help them to get more beautiful and they would go to the roof to prey to the God to help make them beautiful and the akkadians and others worshiped a god named Uz or Azza that was related to war, weapons and symbols of goats just like Azazel and that pehaps those gods became Azza(Samyasa) and Azael in late jewish lore because Uz, Aza, Azza means the strong one and Samyaza means the name Azza and Azazel is an name that relates to both of them as one, so Azza + Azael/Asael= Azazel, so them as different entities is a influence of pagan ideology in early jewish lore but in the end they are one the same!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 177.192.226.19 (talk) 13:25, 28 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
