Fair use rationale for Image:Ashokk.jpg[edit]

Image:Ashokk.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Requested move 6 September 2022[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved to Ashok Kumar (Tamil actor) . per WP:OTHEROPTIONS, two editors agreed the original title was unsuitable, but offered different targets, and I am choosing Ashok Kumar (Tamil actor) because it seems to have the most sources. If another title is preferred, a new RM can be opened. (closed by non-admin page mover) ASUKITE 15:57, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ashok (actor)Ashok Kumar Balakrishnan – Ashok Kumar Balakrishnan is the correct name 130.88.16.130 (talk) 11:02, 6 September 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. – robertsky (talk) 19:41, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Steel1943 (talk) 20:20, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
130.88.16.130 Is this the WP:COMMONNAME though? -Kj cheetham (talk) 19:10, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It appears Ashok Kumar Balakrishnan or Ashok Balakrishnan is more common than Ashok as per google search. The article was created a long time ago with that name which I don't think is suitable now. 130.88.16.130 (talk) 10:56, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to Ashok Kumar (Tamil actor) per all sources in the article (except last one) and this interview by News7 Tamil. Also see [1]. He is credited by this name here, here, here, in Chithiram Pesuthadi 2 (full movie not in YouTube), in Vidiyatha Iravondru Vendum (full movie not in YouTube) and in Bestie (full movie not in YouTube). There is another Tamil actor named Ashok: Ashok Selvan. DareshMohan (talk) 18:43, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violations[edit]

It appears that much of the prose of this article is copied from other websites. I have already submitted a request for revision deletion for a recent addition that added text from filmibeat. But after that text is removed it appears that restored/remainng text is taken from IMDb and again from filmibeat, plus nettv4u and The Hindu (see CopyVio report). There will be more scrubbing necessary.

This is also an opportunity to remind editors that filmibeat, nettv4u and IMDb are unreliable sources. See WP:ICTFSOURCES for a list of reliable and unreliable sources for Indian cinema. See WP:IMDB for more on why IMDb is unreliable.  — Archer1234 (t·c) 20:24, 15 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have tagged the article, asking for a copyright investigation of the "Early life" and "Career" sections. Now we wait for an administrator or copyright clerk to investigate and determine whether there is a violation and, if there is, take appropriate action to scrub the article's history. It appears complicated to me because there are a couple of websites, filmibeat and IMDb, and this article that contain the same text and it is not clear who copied from whom and whose text was first. The investigation could take weeks or longer depending on the backlog of copyright investigations, the availability of administrators or copyright clerks and the complicated nature of the situation. Patience will be needed while this proceeds. If you have any comments about the ongoing investigation, you can add them to this discussion thread or start a new thread.
While we wait for the investigation to complete, I ask for help for editors to find published reliable sources that can be used to verify everything in the "Filmography" tables. The "Filmography" section is not part of the possible copyright violations, so we should be able to continue to cite references in that section or add new entries (as long as we cite published reliable sources to verify them).
Additionally, if editors are interested in writing new prose to replace what was in "Early life" and "Career" sections, we can do so at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Ashok_Kumar_(Tamil_actor)/Temp. We need to be extra vigilant that every claim added can be tied to published reliable source(s).  — Archer1234 (t·c) 04:05, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
