This section is a bit excessive, the citations to support the claims are weak, has anyone got any stronger citations?

Bosnian Canadian footballer

[edit]

He has played for BH today and that has been inserted but that does not change the fact that in the lede he is still bosnian by birth and canadian by citizenship, I think his canadian status is still very important and should stay in the lede, perhaps a rewording to make it clearer, any thoughts? Off2riorob (talk) 20:05, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To a certain extent you are both correct as there is no rule or official ethnic identity under which he would fall or anyone else for that matter. Any football player or any one person can and has the right to refer to themselves how they wish it to be. Without having to pull out the dictionary, generally speaking a persons ethnic identity is based on the society in which they were born and grew up. Because Asmir's background is unique in that he and his family had to flee from Bosnia during the war at a very young age for him, he grew to early adulthood in Canada, but it is also important to remember that he is still young and part of this early adulthood is spent in England for the past four years. So does that also make him English? No, because that's not what identifies as, or at least not according to anything I've ever read in the media about him. One thing is 100% sure and that is that he wishes to be identified as Bosnian (as per media reports and personal interviews to Bosnian media) and PERHAPS Canadian which I won't question, but would like to see some proof. --Stlunatic071 (talk) 04:23, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
How he wishes to be identified is not relevant to what information should or should not be included in the article.--SaskatchewanSenator (talk) 06:30, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'm just glad that you've read the article, because based on your comment, you've got no idea what you are talking about. No one is asking anyone to omit any information or data. Perhaps mentioning at the bottom of the intro that he holds Canadian citizenship may be the way to go, we'll see. However, saying "Asmir Begović (born June 20, 1987 in Trebinje, Yugoslavia) is a Bosnian-Canadian..." is identifying him with a specific group of people. Bosnian-Canadians ring a bell!? Or it's just a fictitious, for-fun ethnic group of people!? Facts that I've seen thus far and the other editor that took the opportunity to change his ethnic identity from Bosnian-Canadian to Bosnian, point towards Bosnian rather than Bosnian-Canadian, either way I don't give a shit but facts are facts and should be presented and honored here properly. Out.--Stlunatic071 (talk) 09:03, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I support adding somehow in the lede that he is bosnian by birth and now has canadian citizenship and lives in canada, does his family still live in canada? Off2riorob (talk) 10:41, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Something like a small expansion of the lede to include..Born in Bosnia and emigrated to Canada due to the war and now holds dual nationallity. Simple and clear Off2riorob (talk) 10:45, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest this..."Asmir Begović (born June 20, 1987 in Trebinje, Yugoslavia) is a Bosnian football goalkeeper playing for Portsmouth. He is also a Canadian Citizen." ..simple and clear ...feel free to add it if you agree. Off2riorob (talk) 10:51, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Contracted to Portsmouth and currently on loan to Yeovil....should be added as well, he is not playing for portsmouth is he? Off2riorob (talk) 10:54, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
For what it's worth, his loan at Yeovil expired in November 2008 and he was on the bench for Portsmouth's last Premier League match. [1] Cloudz679 (talk) 13:44, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that, that should be updated and with his appearances this season for them, if any. Off2riorob (talk) 13:55, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
He is not actually mentioned in that cite, perhaps on pompeys site..I will look later. Off2riorob (talk) 13:59, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you click on 'Show team line-ups and match stats, you can see he was on the bench. Regarding his appearances for Portsmouth, those are already on his page.Cloudz679 (talk) 15:25, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Off2riorob, I think that sounds fair. As for your question to where his family resides, they've lived in Germany since 2004.--Stlunatic071 (talk) 19:23, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Go ahead and add it then...be bold and we can have a look and see if we like it.Off2riorob (talk) 19:48, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I support the simple alteration to the lede by User Stlunatic071 regarding the dual nationalty issue, it is simple and clear. Off2riorob (talk) 20:27, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think "As of 2002, he also holds dual Canadian citizenship" is clear. Does that mean he acquired Canadian citizenship in 2002?--SaskatchewanSenator (talk) 17:28, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, and perhaps uncitable, we know he has dual citizenship or he wouldn't have been available for the canadian team, what about just removing the time frame, that is better for me. Off2riorob (talk) 17:54, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also this infobox has got messed up and now shows Yeovil for 2009, which is incorrect. Off2riorob (talk) 17:56, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Uncited addition

[edit]

An IP has added this comment without a citation..."he know plays for ipwich town" this is the second time this has been added over the last few days, there is nothing I can see on a search, it it true? Off2riorob (talk) 20:56, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

See this. It is indeed correct. Mattythewhite (talk) 21:15, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well done, thanks Mattythewhite. Off2riorob (talk) 21:26, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you look at that link, looks like most of their information comes from this wiki page :)) Cloudz679 (talk) 06:33, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
