Best of Album

Shouldn't the best of album they released in 2006 be listed in the discography? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.168.53.69 (talk) 07:05, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Info a bit off

This article seems very informative but their information is a little bit off. Most people think "Fractures In Your Porcelain Fasade" was their first album when really it was "Suicide Notes And Butterfly Kisses." Also, does anyone know anything about their new cd? TearAwayTheFunerealDress 15:32, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

Your facts are off. "Fractures..." came before "Suicide Notes...", but neither was their first album. Their first album was entitled "Visions", and was released in 1999. -- BoaDrummer 09:43, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

"...changed their name to Atreyu after a horrible cheesy children's movie The Neverending Story..."-I don't think the horrible cheesy part is an actual fact. I think someone is joking...209.247.22.245 01:10, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Latest Album

Their newest album "Lead Sails Paper Anchor" has defined more of a groove metal sound for the band while still maintaining a little metalcore. What do you guys think about groove metal? Either way, Atreyu is still an awesome band.

I don't think there is any groove metal to the new album at all, to be honest. There are a couple of metalcore-influenced thrash metal songs (e.g. When Two Are One), a couple of metalcore songs (e.g. Can't Happen Here) but the bulk of the album comes under hard rock and post-hardcore. Some of the hard rock tracks do have riffs that would usually be associated with heavy metal, but I think that's just their metalcore/post-hardcore influence meshing with the hard rock style.

Also, please sign your comments. James25402 22:17, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

The article really needs to be updated. It's already dated. Perhaps it could be re-written so it doesn't use phrases like "currently touring" or "upcoming album" that will become out-dated at some point. Shouldn't any encylopedia article avoid future tense if possible? Twhoffman 20:53, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

New Album

Added the fact that it's been leaked.

The New album is awesome. Not AS awesome as "Suicide Notes And Butterfly Kisses". But I think its better than "The Curse"

New New Album

Im about to miss my train so i'll be quick: newish blog on their myspace page about new album?

Thursday, April 12, 2007

Hello everyone,

It's been a while since we've made a vague semblance of an update, so here goes:

For the last few months we've been home working on songs for the new record. We ended up writing about 25, all of which we are really siked on. We've been working with John Feldman on this record, and we couldn't be happier. In fact, we've been in the studio for about a month and things are coming out really awesome. This album is definitely on its way to being the biggest, most epic record to date for us. We're counting down the days till we can play them for you.

maybe needs to be mentioned on discography?

Band name

Some information on the main page is wrong, I believe.

I recall watching Fuse a long while back, and Atreyu was the special guest on Daily Download. While talking with the show hosts, Alex verified that the band name was in fact taken from a character in "The Neverending Story". Something about it meaning never giving up and fighting for what's right, much like the character himself. Just wanted to point that out.

Yes I saw that too. I thought it was wrong on the page but did not say anything because they might of changed it recently. TearAwayTheFunerealDress 15:20, 14 October 2005 (UTC)

Yeah I saw that too. Alex told them that it was from "The Neverending Story".

Genre

Atreyu is a metalcore band trying to be a metal band for teenage girls.

So change it.

Somebody has decided to stick 'nu-metal' and 'fashioncore' throughout the last few paragraphs. Im guessing it was someone who doesn't like the band, their newest album, or both. They are clearly not nu-metal, so im removing that word.

Fine by me. I never really understood the meaning of 'nu metal' anyways. What is nu metal? TearAwayTheFunerealDress 16:26, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

who put screamo back on there, along with post-hardcore . . . ?

Atreyu is a metalcore band. They have been since they started out and still are considered a metal band. XxNo.One.RunsxX 14:57, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

If they're a metalcore band, how the hell can they be a metal band? Those genres are quite mutually exclusive. 81.240.165.161 18:07, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
I'm positive that most normal people have no idea just what in the hell the difference is. 214.13.173.15 (talk) 15:06, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

I feel that they should be labeled as a modern rock band. There is nothing "metal" about their sound, however they do have a lot of the post-hardcore elements in there. Post and Core does not equal metal. 4.159.167.189 18:47, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

There's no rock in their sound so metalcore is quite good but they aren't a metal band. Say that they are a metal or a modern rock band is the same thing to say that Linkin Park is a Gangsta Rap outfit.

DCman 22:04, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

The genre changes need to stop. Everytime I come to this page the genre is different. I thought it was decided that Atreyu is Post-Hardcore and Metalcore. Does everyone agree that this is their genre? Razorblade666 00:25, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

"If they're a metalcore band, how the hell can they be a metal band? Those genres are quite mutually exclusive" That's a ridiculous thing to say. That's like saying "Metallica aren't heavy metal because some of their music is thrash metal". The terms aren't mutually exclusive. Metalcore is a subgenre of Heavy Metal therefore Atreyu are a metal band. MetalDevastation (talk) 14:34, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

I'd just like to know why Atreyu is a metalcore band, I'm not trying to argue that they're not, but I'd like to know what sources claim they're metalcore. RPTechnic (talk) 20:06, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Right Side of the Bed

Am I the only one who realizes this song is a complete rip-off of the song "The Hive" by In Flames? The opening riff is almost exactly the same, and In Flames' song was released in '97, so I think we're looking at a rip-off. So don't delete it, it's important.

I wouldn't say it is a rip-off but maybe totally based on "The Hive", yes. But their are minor differences in the riff. But it does seem to be based and influenced by that song. TearAwayTheFunerealDress 15:23, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

I am not a fan of the band, but is the commonalities honestly needed? Yes. If you notice the resemblance, then it needs to be put in the Wikipedia article.

"If someone notices the resemblance?" Then it's original research, which Wikipedia isn't for. Nbettencourt 13:45, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Many bands have songs that sound like copies of other songs in their reportoire, and people need to know these guys ripped off In Flames, the true-metal geniuses from Sweden.

The true-metal geniuses are extremely skilled musicians, and you have every right to throw your opinion onto an encyclopedia, since everyone agrees with you on every point anyway. There are NO differences in the riff, and the entire song is just that riff, so it really is a true rip-off...

i wouldn't say it's a rip-off...so what if they stole the riff?..i mean listen to the lyrics of the song..it's awsome! there so many bands who take other band's songs..for example..half of Marilyn Manson's songs aren't written by him..they've been done by someone else before..not to mention,Marilyn Manson is awsome!..but Atreyu is still AWSOMEER!...what's really funny is the lyrics of the song got someone hardcore, and he said it makes me wanna have hardcore sex..don't ask me why,but he just said it.

Screamo?

Its kind of hard to see when your eyes are rolling in the back of my head (lol)... I put into the genre box that they are metalcore (in place of Screamo) as they clearly define themselves as a rock band that plays Metallic Hardcore, and they have goth tinged melodies and lyrics, no matter how bad fans or detractors of goth say. Screamo is a term standing for "screaming emotional punk" and it seems to be dominated today more by pop-punk artists who seem more into "making it for the man". Metalcore retains an underground attitude, but I understand in the double standard of the fact that Atreyu are now quickly becoming arena rock stars. I added a critics quote concerning their acoustic arrangement that cites them as a goth-tinged metal-hardcore group. Thank you. --Chris Cole, (not logged in).

I agree. I took Screamo off again. Leave it off. They're clearly bears. You people need to learn what Screamo really is, but I guess you cannot listen to music if the band doesn't have T-Shirts at Hot Topic.-MC John

Clarify

Why are there mentions of certain facts but so little elaboration? It is written that Atreyu played repeatedly in the Southern California music scene but not where. There is very little biographical information yet so much time has been dedicated to organizing the discography that an imbalance has been generated between promotional and factual information.

question

how the heck do you pronounce this band's name? I've heard people say it so many different ways but i just can't find the written in blood way. I know this might seem like a stupid questionn but oh well. i need to know because i LOVE this band.

Its pronounced (uh-trey-you) how other way could you possibly pronounce it? -(Ay-trey-you)...yeah right...that would be how Canadians say it.

I usually pronounce it Ay-tree-oo. 62.252.193.217 19:50, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

A-trey-you. however i usually leave off the last emphasis on the you, so its closer A-trey-u. 65.124.8.131 15:23, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism

There has been vandalism done to this page -- I deleted what I knew was not acceptable, but on the former members area, I can't edit it due to my lack of interest in the band. User:Growlnotscream 1:35 PM 14 April 2006 sdfsdfsdffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

what the heck

Atreyu is not an emo-core band so who ever put it under there gener is dead wrong. so I am removing Emotional core from their gener. Atreyu is a straight up METALCORE band, and they are not trying to be a Metal band just for Teenage girls because their not gay.If anything they they are a metalcore band but also play screamo. so I will be removing Emocore from their gener and adding Screamo and I Sugjest that you all please leave it as I put it, because Im right about this. TRUST ME and will the guy who said "Italic textAtreyu is trying to be a metal band for teenage girls" please tell me where you got your info from.

-

Hah! Sugjest! That made my day!

     - Anon

I'm sure they are. Now obviously you suck the corperate cock and have no idea what Screamo is. Listen to Pg.99, Circle Takes The Square, Majority Rule, etc for actual Screamo

Vandalism Gone, "Teenage Girls"

Another genre argument. They're everywhere. And Atreyu is trying to "be a band for teenage girls" because of their lyrics. Very, very pretty-boy like. If that's what makes them cool, then go for it.

They shouldn't change their image and their lyrics to suit girls. Even if their scene chicks or suicide girls, they should be themselves or else fans would not listen to them becuase they changed their image

Redirect

I don't understand the point of the redirect page. If you've got the disambig link at the top of the page, there's no need to redirect from Atreyu to Atreyu (band). -Wlmaltby3 08:44, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

It's been three days; no one objected or commented on the redirect so I moved the article back to its original place. There's no need to redirect the page unless the page for Atreyu (character) is moved to Atreyu because then Atreyu (band) would indeed have to be created. However, the disambig link at the top of the page points to Atreyu (character) so creating a redirect to Atreyu (band) is completely unncessary because of the fact that it goes against standards that I'm too lazy to find at this moment in time. –Wlmaltby3 09:22, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Missing sections

There's an entire section missing from this article. I know this, because I wrote the missing section some months ago. The entire section was about the history of the band, and it's completely gone. I don't know how to revert edits to go back to a prior version of this article. If someone would be so kind as to fix this problem, that would be fantastic. Otherwise, I'll just re-write the section and put it back in there. –Wlmaltby3 21:29, 4 May 2006 (UTC) ____________________________________________________________________________________ I got rid of the whole section about them bashing metal bands like Black Sabbath and others. This section really isn't necessary and whats the proof?

Atreyu

A semi-new band from Orange Country, California. Their music from the newest album really reminds me of oldschool Metallica. They have a very unique sound that few bands seem to obtain which combines 3 genre's together consisting of hardcore, emo, and metal. Made up of Alex Varkatzas, Brandon Saller, Dan Jacobs, and Marc McKnight. Currently signed to Victory records, they have two released EP's(Visions, and Fractures in the Facade of your Porcelain Beauty), and three full-length albums(Suicide Notes & Butterfly Kisses, The Curse, A Deathgrip on Yesterday). This is one of the few bands that are good enough to make me headbang like they do, while keeping a good set of singing mixed with awesome drum and guitar play. I suggest this band to anyone into metal/hardcore. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gotron (talkcontribs) .

Atreyu reminds you of old school Metallica? Does Kanye West remind you of Led Zepplin? ...Anon

Yeah seriously? Atreyu is nothing at all like Metallica, really. Atreyu is just another symptom of the horrid metalcore fad. Senner 20:59, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

If you want good metalcore listen to As I Lay Dying or All That Remains. Most of the other stuff is crap. Theunknown42 05:29, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

...Maltese metal?

I don't know who thought it'd be funny to change their location to Malta, but that's not where they're from. I'm changing it back. –Wlmaltby3 17:03, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Three Bass drums?

  • anyone have a good theory (or better yet an answer) as to why brandon saller is using 3 bass drums in the Ex's and Oh's video? i dont think i even saw him touch the third one but it was definantly there
  • So you he can pretend he's a good drummer. We all know he sucks.
  • Well, when I saw them at the Taste of Chaos in Cleveland, he had three bass drums. I'd guess that he uses the third bass drums for some songs but not in Ex's and Oh's, and used his standard setup for the video. Kravitch 01:39, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
  • I TOTALLY DISAGREE!!! Brandon Saller a freaken bad ass drummer, he's playing the drums while he's freaking singing, Why he didn't use the third bass drum i don't know but he's a bad ass drummer!!!! You should burn in hell for the comment you left Kravitch

Brandon IS NOT a crap drummer!!! whoeva said he sucks well u suck S**t and have hearing problems

  • Being a drummer myself, I know it's impossible to actually use the three bass drums in the way he has his kit set up. He has his floor toms right in front of where the pedal would be. My theory (a joking theory... :)) was that it was because their rival band, Avenged Sevenfold's drummer recently upgraded to two bass drums. But I doubt it's true. The third drum is in fact simply for show. --BoaDrummer 09:40, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
  • while we're on the subject of brandon, does anyone know why his page was deleted? i've been wondering for ages. --ReiKoko
  • There's been a lot of nonsense going around a bunch of band member pages saying that these people wouldn't be notable if they weren't in a band, so they don't deserve their own page. It's happened before. --BoaDrummer 02:54, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
  • And back to the drum question, on the official Atreyu FAQ on their MySpace blog, it says "One is for good luck." So yeah. Answered. --BoaDrummer 08:03, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Wouldn't that be an interesting tidbit to add to the band's main page, seeing as how it has a citation (the band's MySpace FAQ)? –syncretic 23:55, 29 Aug 2006 (EST)

I wouldn't agree that Brandon's a good drummer. For good drummers, see Chuck Dukowski, The Rev (A7X), Nile's drummer, The drummer from Pantera, ect. Brandon is actually a somewhat mediocre drummer and just barely passable. What he excells at is vocals. That he can keep pace with the rhythm of his drumming without having his singing vibrate or bounce is pretty good. If I'm just walking and trying to sing it jars my vocal chords and messes me up. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 208.191.82.110 (talkcontribs).

Pronunciation

Anybody... know how you say Atreyu?

→uh-TRAY-oo 4.225.95.126 04:40, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

it said (At-RAY-u) or uh-trey-you...either way..sounds the same to me

                                   -RohmA!

I always thought the first syllable was "ah," not "uh." Does anybody have anything official stating the pronunciation? I've found numerous fan sites mentioning the pronuncation, but it's hard to know who's right. This question really is asked quite a bit, so it would probably be a good addition to the article, so a reference to an official site would be good. Twhoffman 05:18, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

emo

theyre not emo. since when can you be emo and metal/metalcore at the same time?

Since you could mix their sounds and influences, I guess. They sure as hell aren't straight metalcore I think. I don't even like them, why am I here?

how could you not like ATreyu??..their awsome!..and NO their not EMO!..emo is just screaming plain shit that doesn't make sence...their metalcore alright...and their lyrics has a gothic sence to it..i don't think that makes sence, but i hope you get it.

                         rohma!

WHO THE HELL KEEPS LABELING THEM EMO? im locking this page due to the fact that non-members continually think that they are emo —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.129.103.212 (talk) 21:12, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

different discography

http://www.last.fm/music/Atreyu/+albums

This website display a somewhat different discography than what I've ever seen - ex. Fabulous Secrets Revealed - a seven-track release by Atreyu that I've never heard of before. Take a look.

hmm, i wish buts thats not atreyu, its a band called shoot the genie (i think) but they used to call themselves atreyu:

A four-piece from Melbourne and originally called Atreyu (name change due to a Californian metal band), Shoot The Genie are Kristy on lead vocals and guitar; Claire on bass and vocals; Melissa on the drums and 'newbie' Daniel on guitar. They released the Fabulous Secrets Revealed cd (under the Atreyu name) in 2001.

tour

should someone put that from first to last was kicked off their tour and atreyu is being blamed for it? its probably irrelevent, but i thought i would ask.

Cleanup tag

As I'm not a follower of the band, I don't feel that I'm the one that should do it, but a LOT of that stuff about FFTL in the first section needs to be restructured, or gone completely. Are their feuds with other bands etc really necessary? It looks rather biased and/or catty, with all of the statements that are being released and consequently, posted here. atreyu vs. a7x

i heard that m. shadows was bagging on atreyu in some magazine. he claimed they stole a riff or something.

I believe you're referring to the claims that Atreyu stole the opener song to "The Curse" from Avenged Sevenfold's "Waking The Fallen" CD. The two are practically the same. I for one believe that Atreyu did rip it off, but of course, you'll find supporters of both. --BoaDrummer 03:22, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Madden 07

Do you think we should put in that the band's song "ex's and ohs" was featured in the video game Madden 07?

I removed that stupid line, "Atreyu is a band that plays music." It really is useless.

Hollywood Records

Wow, I read a review about their "Greatest Hits" album recently and stated they eventually moved on to Hollywood Records. At first, I thought it was a joke but now looking on their site, they really did sign on to Hollywood Records. I really think this is a bad move on their part. I really don't know what to expect now. I know their contract with Victory was finished after the Hits album but what made them sign to Hollywood? Jordan Cable 17:53, 7 February 2007 (UTC).

If u think bout it though Hollywood is a major record company so they are probably getting more money and stuff. I think it doesnt matter what label they are on cuz Atreyu is Atreyu but as long as they dont turn soft (which is neva gunna happen) it doesnt matter. Atreyu is not gunna let a record company change the band and what they play so honestly it is probably better for them and it might be better for fans. kirsten 13:28, 11 February 2007.

About Removed Criticism

I know everyone likes to think their favorite bands are the image of perfection and undeserving of scorn, but why were the criticisms deleted? When a politician takes open shots at another politician, the quotations pop up on Wikipedia articles seconds after the words are uttered. Atreyu creates enough of a stir with an interview to provoke responses from the music community, and this ceases to be notable.. why? It had been sourced with an external link, so it wasn't an invention of an Atreyu detractor.

Neverending Story Reference

Can we get the Neverending Story Reference checked? The reasoning for the band's name has changed various times during the existance of this article, and has gone back and forth on the Neverending Story reference. Sometimes the article says a friend suggested the name (which may have been in reference to the movie) and sometimes the article says that they simply named themself after the character from the Neverending Story. If the former case is true, then credit should be given to the friend (and have a note making reference to the Neverending Story), otherwise if the latter is true we can just keep the article as is. I simply think we should double check the facts on this one...again. 202.216.122.215

Heartagram appearence

In the videos for Right side of the bed and Lip gloss and black The Heartagram of the finnish band HIM appears. should this be added to the page? just if n e 1 is wondering, in Right side of the bed, it is a pin on Brandon Sallers jacket, and in Lip gloss and black its on someones shirt near the end. Post-Hardcore?

Atreyu have never struck me as a post-hardcore band, as much as a metalcore or hardcore band. Does anyone have anything to say or show to the contrary? The KZA 03:49, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

To me Honestly there more of a Punk Hardcore/ Emo band. There not screamo they have to be like Underoath or As I Lay Dying to be screamo. I dont think there metalcore at all mabe Nu Metal. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.247.22.140 (talk) 15:56, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

I was the one who added post-hardcore, as it seemed to be the best way to describe their change in style from The Curse onwards. I had a citation for it in a truepunk.com article on the band, but somewhere along the way somebody seems to have removed the citations for the genres. At least from what I've seen on reliable sites, three of the genres in the infobox have been cited previously (I've seen their latest offering labelled as hard rock), but I've never seen anybody label Atreyu as an alternative metal band. I'm not disagreeing with it because I think Lead Sails... has an alternative metal feel in many ways, but we really need to see some citations for that.

I think the band's metalcore sound is very minimal on their latest release. It is still there, but it's clear they've explored their post-hardcore side a lot more as they had on A Deathgrip On Yesterday. James25402 12:39, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Origin of Band Name

I was reading the article and I'm confused. It states, "When it states that the band switched from using Retribution to Atreyu, because they found out another band was using the same name" or something to that effect. Was that other band using the name Retribution or Atreyu?Kou Nurasaka 15:28, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Huh?

Why is this page filled all sorts of cursing and other things like that? "Atreyu is a metal band...."

I am maybe being picky, but considering the band's main genres have consisted of a metal/punk fusion (metalcore) and a punk genre (post-hardcore), shouldn't we label them a punk band? Or are the punks gonna come running in numbers and attempt to disown Atreyu? It does seem like neither metal fans or punks want to accept metalcore bands as being part of their genre. I personally like the band, but I know that at some point this opening statement is going to encourage vandalism (perhaps it should just be changed to "is a metalcore band", even though they don't really use this genre anymore, they are more well-known for it) and considering the genres listed, which are cited no less, it does appear to indicate that Atreyu are more of a punk band than a metal band. Shouldn't this be changed? James25402 (talk) 11:23, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Emo,punk, or just plain old metal

I would say the band has an emo look and some of there lyrics have to do with drugs and stuff like that...... but I don't know if you can consider that emo or punk. If i had to define their new album, I would say it was metallic punk ( i don't even know if that is a real genre) but that is haw I would describe it. I say that because some of there lyrics have to do with political matters, rising against something and not giving a shit about what critics think. --76.248.244.189 (talk) 01:32, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

I would not consider them emo. They're more alternative metal/punk. But of course, it's pointless to discuss what genre they are because we need sources for every genre. Timmeh! 15:44, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
