Translation of 'Vorsprung'

information Note: Previous discussion of this at Talk:Audi/Archive 1 § Vorsprung?

Hello! The translation of "Vorsprung" to "Progress" is not correct. "Progress" in german would be "Fortschritt", whereas "Vorsprung" means "advance", "lead", or "head start". (Source). I will not change the article now, I leave it to the native speakers to decide which is the most appropriate term. Greetings --Maelcum (talk) 12:13, 18 December 2018 (UTC)

I agree. "Progress" is definitely a mistranslation. I'd translate it as "leadership through technology". That's as close as it gets without becoming wordy. I found a number of different translations by professional translators, so I don't think there is something like an expert consensus translation we could cite, or one that states the lack of consensus in the literature. But we should at least try to find a source that states the problem with the mistranslation. Paradoctor (talk) 11:59, 23 September 2019 (UTC)
