Contradiction

[edit]

the article states:

"Auraria declined at Denver's expense when Russell and many of his party returned to Georgia at the outbreak of the American Civil War in order to fight for the Confederacy."

But the next sentence reads:

"Auraria officially ceased to exist on April 6, 1860 when it was incorporated into Denver, and was referred to as West Denver."

So Auraria ceased to exist 7 months before the election of Lincoln (November 1860), and a full year before the start of the Civil War (April 1861). The return of Russell's party could not have caused the decline of a town that had long ceased to exist. In addition, when the war broke out, Russell was not living in Auraria, but was mining gold up in Russell Gulch up in Gilpin County. Any thoughts? Plazak (talk) 20:02, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
