Influenced by the Kebaya?[edit]

TOTALLY? That is such a bold claim. There is no source for this. I am not sure where the influence comes from, but surely it could have been styled after the kebaya in recent years. But I believe the Av Pak was originally based on Victorian-style blouses that Siamese elites and royalty wore during the time of Chulalongkorn. The resemblance to a kebaya is superficial and in fact only slight. The Av Pak has open on the back side where it can be buttoned or zippered. The Kebaya is open in the front. The sleeve shapes are different. And back then, the sleeves were poofy like Victorian-style blouses. --Dara (talk) 23:41, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also, if any clothing from Cambodia is more related to the Kebaya, I would say it's the ruffly-edged blouse of colored silk that the women of Pailin wear. That is if the Malays had any real cultural connection to the Mon and Burmese groups. In basic shape and form, it is a lot like the kebaya. --Dara (talk) 23:45, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
