The tallest building in the Balkans?[edit]

There's Trbovlje Chimney and Plomin Power Station chimney, both considerably taller. Of course, it all depends on the definition of "building", but I don't think chimneys are excluded. GregorB 22:09, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the Avala tower would go in the observation tower section. Maybe they meant it was the tallest observation tower? But all I know is, when you are talking about tallest buildings, chimneys are excluded, because they have their own field. --Krytan talk 23:23, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Ruse TV Tower, at 210 m, is higher and falls in the same category. It was built somewhen between 1944 and 1989 (in Socialist times). Also, TV towers are not buildings per se, since a building has to be intended for continuous occupancy. They are more correctly (free-standing) structures.

So, the conclusion is, it was not the tallest tower in the Balkans until 1999, but may have been for a lot shorter time, since I still can't find when the Ruse Tower was built. It was not the tallest structure in the Balkans, certainly not until 1999. Now, what the Balkans is depends on the definition (whether we count Slovenia or not). Yeah, the Rousse TV Tower is taller with the antenna. If it really HAS to be mentioned that it was the tallest in the Balkans, then let it mention information on the roof. Tallest building ever destroyed[edit]

Do you agree with this line

(Avala TV Tower) was the tallest building ever destroyed, succeeding the Singer Building. As of 2001, it is the third tallest building ever destroyed (behind the two World Trade towers).

I think that structure or some other word is more appropriate for tower then building.

It is true, and it should not be changed to structure because there were taller structures destroyed. If you really feel that "building" is inappropriate, you could change it to "free-standing structure". Nikola (talk) 17:47, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
