Deletion

[edit]

Should this article be deleted? I don't see inherent notability. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Roy Carter (North Carolina)

If it's good for Democratic goose Roy Carter, it's good for Republican gander Lawson. Awbeal (talk) 13:49, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is why we can't have nice things. Obviously the democrat's article shouldn't have been deleted either. 71.200.102.171 (talk) 23:49, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Non-notable politician who fails WP:POLITICIAN Albatross2147 (talk) 01:04, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please outline your reasons for asserting that he is non-notable and that he fails WP:POLITICIAN. He made national news (the magazines Reason and Vanity Fair, an interview with the television and radio host Glenn Beck, and mentions in a few blog posts by the journalist Radley Balko, was endorsed by Ron Paul and received donations from a nationwide base as a result of that), as well as having a campaign that was widely covered by the press in the Triangle area of North Carolina. An unknown congressional candidate garnering such national attention is rare in the United States.--Gloriamarie (talk) 03:14, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • People who have held international, national or first-level sub-national political office, including members of a legislature and judges. - Fails
  • Major local political figures who have received significant press coverage. Generally speaking, mayors are likely to meet this criterion, as are members of the main citywide government or council of a major metropolitan city. - Fails - only run once so far
  • Major figures in national or first-level sub-national political races. - Fails
  • Just being an elected local official, or an unelected candidate for political office, does not guarantee notability - Seems to fit this

I am open to contrary povs however. Albatross2147 (talk) 04:43, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would argue that on the second point, Lawson qualifies because he did receive significant press coverage in the Triangle, and more significantly nationwide, which is rare for someone who has never run for office before and who was previously an unknown. As an example I can think of from the top of my head, someone else who would have previously qualified on this count who had never held elected or major office until last year or so was Tammy Duckworth, who received national coverage of her Illinois congressional race a few years ago and then was later appointed as the head of the Illinois VA. She would have qualified on this point just after her one 2006 congressional race alone (even though she lost) because she received national coverage for that one race (although moreso than Lawson).--Gloriamarie (talk) 19:48, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Neurosurgeon?

[edit]

Nothing against BJ, but in reference to the following statement,

"He moved to North Carolina in 1992,[2] where he graduated from Duke University with a degree in biomedical and electrical engineering and from Duke Medical School as a neurosurgeon.[2]"

I'm not convinced it should read "neurosurgeon." It should probably read physician. Although BJ started a neurosurgery residency, he never completed it. As a result, he wouldn't be a board certified neurosurgeon, as I understand it.

2010 Campaign

[edit]

An online source will be noted when the information is gradually leaked out to the public. I'll keep looking for a news source on this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by HaroldatState (talkcontribs) 04:09, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
