Name[edit]

Is this his stage name--as a composer--or is it his real, legal name? "Liederman" literally means "song man" in German! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Froese (talkcontribs) 00:37, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: name[edit]

I came here with the same question, sort of: You'll notice that his name as spelled is not "Liederman" ("man of songs" in Yiddish; cf. German Liedermann) but rather "Leiderman" ("man of sorrows"; cf. Leidermann).

However, it is interesting that (at least on the radio) his name is pronounced as if it were Liedermann; my question is whether he and/or NPR changed the pronunciation to make it fit his role with NPR.
