can someone update the page with the new logo [1]. 91.84.88.222 (talk) 23:09, 20 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BBC Cymru Wales

[edit]

This page should be moved to BBC Cymru Wales with redirects from BBC Wales.

Rhyshuw1 (talk) 18:04, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why? The new page would make no sense, as it'd be basically "BBC Wales Wales". I think the entire point of the rename was so you could call it "BBC Cymru" or "BBC Wales", not both at the same time. Sceptre (talk) 13:41, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The branding is BBC Cymru Wales. That's what the logo says and that's what it's referred to on air. It it wouldn't make sense, that's your point of view, but it's not up to you to refuse their branding. Welshleprechaun (talk) 21:28, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There is a definite rebranding - see this. And they call themselves BBC Wales Cymru on the TV and radio. I haven't found a source confirming the change though. Daicaregos (talk) 22:14, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well it's not exactly a massive change, so you may be unlikely to find a source announcing it, but it it clear that the branding has changed as Wikipedia should keep up with that. Welshleprechaun (talk) 22:20, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This is still an issue. Do we have any strong arguments against the move? Welshleprechaun (talk) 15:35, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is that they are inconsistent. On their home page today for example, the banner says BBC, the next line says "Wales" to the left, gives the date in the middle, and has the BBC Cymru Wales logo to the right. Their main advert is noted as "BBC Wales Sports Personality 2009" and "BBC cymru wales SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR 2009" right next to each other. In the winner's announcement they say "Ryan Giggs wins BBC Wales Sports Personality 2009" as the headline and then "BBC CYMRU WALES SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR 2009" as a sub headline if you click on the announcement. It appears to me that anything within Wales is noted as BBC Cymru Wales, but as far as the corporation is concerned they are still known as BBC Wales. Either could be used. However, BBC Cymru Wales seems to be used more and more often (they always seem to say BBC Cymru Wales on the radio and television now - whereas, a couple of months ago it was used intermittently) and is used as a corporate logo at Llandaff. So, on balance, I think we should go with the name change to BBC Cymru Wales. Daicaregos (talk) 17:42, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To address your main point, I think it says BBC Wales here because that's the English language news. Their BBC Cymru Wales logo is clearly displayed to the right of that, where as the Welsh language content comes under BBC Cymru. And yes, they do say BBC Cymru Wales on air so I am in support of a move. Another counterargument made earlier was the translation of BBC Cymru Wales would be BBC Wales Wales, but we're not looking to translate it, nor are we to in any position to reject any recognition of BBC Cymru Wales because of that. Welshleprechaun (talk) 17:56, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. But we should wait a few days for any further comment before making the change. Cheers, Daicaregos (talk) 18:11, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Moving to BBC Cymru Wales. Any objections should be addressed here in on the talk page, and not just reverted back. Welshleprechaun (talk) 18:46, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
