Change Article Name?[edit]

The band has changed their name to BWO. Should this article change as well? 75.119.235.6 (talk) 12:21, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think so. The slight issue with this is that "BWO" has other uses but I think they are minor compared to the band. I've made a proposal to that effect on the discussion page for the disambiguation page. Cmch83 (talk) 19:16, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Second most international radio chart hits[edit]

Re the statement "According to Nielsen Music Control, Europe's leading airplay scanning company, BWO have had more international radio chart hits in continental Europe in the 21st century than any other act, with the exception of Robbie Williams", I've marked this up as one of the unverified claims in the article but I have to say that unlike most of the others I'm very sceptical this is actually true. While I'm a huge fan of the band I find it hard to believe they've been popular enough in enough countries (or going long enough for that matter) to make this true. I've seen the claim cropping up elsewhere on the Internet since but I suspect that other websites are copying it from this article. I think it needs to be urgently verified or otherwise removed. Can anyone help? Cmch83 (talk) 14:57, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No responses thus far - I'm going to delete this statement from the article in the very near future unless someone else chips in. Cmch83 (talk) 10:52, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

UK success[edit]

I deleted reference to lack of mainstream success...you don't get more mainstream than having your singles playlisted by BBC Radio 2. Also deleted speculation that chart performance is effected by releases occurring after a time lag with Sweden...unsourced speculation doesn't belong here.Vauxhall1964 (talk) 21:04, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Have deleted speculation that the group's chart placings 'may not reflect their popularity'. This is speculation (also nonsense...the amount of records they sell as shown in chart placings is a very good measure of their popularity). Also removed references to 'rumours' the group were asked to sing for the UK at Eurovision - no place in an encyclopaedia for rumours, I'm afraid.Vauxhall1964 (talk) 01:58, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's valid to note factually in a passing way that UK single releases have been well after the track has been released elsewhere - I accept that speculation about what this means for chart positions is out of place. Cmch83 (talk) 10:54, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

Bodies Without OrgansBWO — Please move this page to BWO as per the uncontested discussion both here and on the old BWO page. This reflects the fact that the name of the band (founded in 2004) changed from Bodies Without Organs to BWO in early 2006 and Wikipedia has yet to properly reflect this. BWO was previously a disambiguation page (which I have moved, but can't move this page into its place), but it is clear that this page will be the one wanted by the vast majority of users searching for BWO. Cmch83 (talk) 19:23, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose and restore the disambiguation page back to the correct spot. This band is NOT the primary meaning. If they really are just BWO now, then the article can be BWO (band). TJ Spyke 13:05, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • In all good faith I don't follow your reasoning, TJSpyke. I freely admit to being a big fan of the band and knowing nothing about the other uses, but surely the band will be much more searched for than the other uses? As the article evidences they are one of Sweden's leading bands and mainstream commercially successful across a large swath of Europe. And even if that isn't the case, the key point is that there's no "if really" about it, BWO is their name and has been for well over three years - i.e. the majority of their lifespan. Whereas the other uses are just abbreviations of the name. (Also I clearly signalled my intention to make this move on the BWO talk page two months ago and no one had objected until now...) Cmch83 (talk) 18:09, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note the dab page has been returned while this issue is discussed. Vegaswikian (talk) 06:22, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose and the current name is bad too, since there are multiple values for "bodies without organs", like birth defect. 70.29.210.174 (talk) 03:14, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move No one looking for birth defects is typing in "BWO" -- and the term Bodies Without Organs is not even present on the birth defect page. The only reason I have ever typed BWO into Wikipedia is to read about the swedish music group, despite that I am aware of the other uses listed on the disambiguation page. In addition, the term "BWO" is not proper usage when applied to any of the other names on the disambiguation page, however, it is the correct usage when referring to the band. This page should be moved to "BWO" and become the primary page when that is searched for. I would not be opposed to a link at the top of the article pointing to the old disambiguation page. 206.248.179.36 (talk) 22:07, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support (see below) I'd say the band is primary topic for the exact term "BWO". Blue World Order has almost the same number of page views [1] [2] as this page, but they're generally abbreviated "bWo". Body without organs is usually abbreviated "BwO". It's safe to assume that some readers will be looking for those pages when they search for "BWO", but a hatnote pointing to the other pages or a dab page is enough. Backward wave oscillator is the only other "BWO", and that page gets about five times less page views than this one. Jafeluv (talk) 23:11, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Let's not do article disambiguation by caps (BwO, bWo, and BWO). The band can go to BWO (band), and the dab should go back to the plain title. Dekimasuよ! 03:25, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. I think it's unreasonable to expect users to know WP's exact capitalization when searching for an acronym-like name (or to even know that capitalization so critically matters, period). I lean towards disambiguating on the common easily distinguished name to help readers (principle of least astonishment). So there are two nearly-same-number-views with completely different meanings, so maybe half the readers will be at the wrong place if BWO is one of those. BWO has existed as a DAB page for a while and the band has been at its full-name place for a while, so inertia says "previous readers and incoming links are used to those meanings at those places". If the band moves to BWO, all links to the full-name get redirected and all links to BWO for other meanings are soft-redirect (require user action), all of which is needless if we keep things as they were. DMacks (talk) 08:08, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • But Bodies Without Organs isn't the band's name and hasn't been for over three years. The name of the band (not just the abbreviation) is BWO. All the other uses of BWO are only abbreviations of the name. That's the key point. Cmch83 (talk) 12:03, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
      • I have no objection to BWO (band) per our standard disambig naming guidelines for one-of-many-meanings of a term. DMacks (talk) 14:42, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
        • Hmm, you're probably right. In spoken language "bWo" sounds exactly the same as "BWO" anyway. Besides, a lot of users don't use capitals at all when typing into the search box. I support moving to BWO (band). Jafeluv (talk) 20:21, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. It looks like the key topic here is that the three letters, BWO, only accurately reflect the name of the music group. Most of the 'oppose' notes are going off topic. None of the other names mentioned are correctly referred to by these three letters. BWO is an acronym for every other meaning, but not for the music group. "BWO" is actually the name of the band. I don't know how this can be disputed. 207.164.138.46 (talk) 20:08, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This article has been renamed as the result of a move request. I will note that early on I moved the dab page back while the discussion was taking place. I don't consider that as my participation in this discussion. If you sort out the various opinions here, it appears that there is little if any opposition to BWO (band), so I'm going to move the article to that name.
