recursive link (corkage) [title=BYOB&oldid=319448326][edit]

In the regional variations section, it is mentioned the 'corkage' and its wiki link is a redirection to the BYOB itself.

I would suggest that if BYOB is the redirection of corckage, the term corkage should be added in the intro. Or even better, create subsections inside regional variations for each different expansions and synonyms of BOYB and then link to its own page or expand the term here and redirect the other main pages not to the main BYOB page but to its subsection inside BYOB.

This doesn't belong on wikipedia[edit]

This article is really just the definition and attempted etymology of a word, which belongs on wiktionary, not here. It has been transwikied to wiktionary already, by the way. Unfortunately, our article seems more complete than what wiktionary has added to their main definition, so I'm leaving this article in place for now. Ultimately it probably shouldn't stay, in the long run, unless this somehow can become a full article. --Xyzzyplugh 15:43, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BYO in Melbourne area[edit]

When I lived in Melbourne, the BYO meant the possibility to bring (and consume) someone's own alcoholic drink in a restaurant, that is NOT licenced to sell such drinks. So, the trick was that even though the restaurant was not allowed to sell beer or wine (due to the strict regulations requiring consent from many neighbours, etc) the guests could consume alcoholic drinks from their own. It was a straight and clear regulation (perhaps a simplified solution of the overcomplicated English legal system) but the key point is that the legal system does not allow something, and the life and the common sense of the regular people find a solution to a problem. Move "alternate meaning" to disambig section?[edit]

I'd like to replace the "alternate meaning" section that refers to the BYOB programming language with an addition to the "for the song..." disambiguation at the top of the page: "For the programming language (Build Your Own Blocks) see Scratch (programming language)" but I'm not sure if doing so would violate the rule against writing about one's own work. Not an acronym[edit]

This is actually not an acronym. Acronyms are "words" like RADAR, SCUBA, words that are typically pronounced, as opposed to saying the specific letters, as in FBI. "BYOB" is an initialism. Excellent point. This article does need to be renamed. But I honestly don't think BYOB (initialism) is much better (even if it is more accurate). Since this article is beverage related I would recommend something like BYOB (beverage) or we just shorten the title to BYO which is currently a redirect here. No, I suppose it's not. I doubt most people even know what an initialism is. Even my browser spell check puts a little red squiggly line under it. :) I think BYOB (beverage) is a good proposal.
