Leadership section[edit]

User:Sundostund repeatedly reverts back a version of the 'leadership' section, which in my view is less informative than the other version. I think that the problems could be summed up as follows:

  • The version I prefer describes the actual present situation, with the three key posts (general secretary, Syrian regional secretary, assistant general secretary) presented with corresponding sources. The Atassi and Jadid episode in the beginning of the post-split history is covered in the historical section. It could be added here also, but again the situation inside the party was in flux until al-Assad took over.
  • The official title is not 'General Secretary of the Regional Command of the Syrian-cell of the Ba'ath Party'. General secretary is 'al-amin al-am' The official title of Bashar al-Assad is 'Regional Secretary' (al-amin al-qutri).

Palestine[edit]

The section on the Palestine Regional Command needs to be improved. In brief, as-Saiqa is not the branch of the party amongst the Palestinians. Rather it is a front organization of the Palestinian branch of the party. Any good references? --Soman (talk) 06:51, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]


Iraq Branch[edit]

I have a source here which refers to Mahmud al-Shaykh Radhi as the Iraqi Minister of Labor and Social Affairs (as of 13 September 2010). http://www.iraq-businessnews.com/tag/wto/ This page refers to Radhi as a prominent member of the Left-wing Ba'ath, suggesting to my mind that the party has been legalised in Iraq. (the Iraq section states that the Iraqi government viewed Qotr al-Iraq as distinct from the Saddam led Ba'ath party, but was ambigious as to the parties legality). Merge[edit]

Do note that As-Sa'iqa is not the Palestinian branch of the party, but a front organization for the Palestinian branch of the party. Regardless of the outcome of the main merge issue, that article should not be merged. --Soman (talk) 20:46, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If we're not going to merge, what we should at least just make the article bigger by including more information from the articles of the regional branches and the various paramilitaries and youth wings ect. Charles Essie (talk) 21:29, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Jordan[edit]

This is clearly the Jordanian branch of the party, http://www.facebook.com/Baath.progressive http://www.abpparty.org/ , 'Progressive Arab Ba'ath Party'. Can we get some WP:RS to include a Jordan section in the article. Egyptian branch[edit]

I'm not sure whether the party has an Egyptian branch. I've found a Ba'ath Party branch in Egypt, but the party appears to be a member of the Iraqi-led movement, particularly given it's support for the opposition to Assad. Thoughts? MrPenguin20 (talk) 14:24, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well in all probability it has a section, its just very tiny..... The pro-Iraq Ba'ath movement has historically always been more popular with the masses, and because of it, being more active... Secondly the statement is sourced, which would offer a problem. But good job, I kind of gave up looking for all these Ba'ath branches a long time ago, its good that some of us are still doing their job :) --TIAYN (talk) 14:36, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Syrian Seats[edit]

This article is out of date. In the infobox we only get the number of seats the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party – Syria Region had before the 2016 parliamentary election. Unfortunately, that article only gives us the number of seats "won" by the National Progressive Front and not the parties therein. Tunisia[edit]

This article says "there is no formal structure linked to the Damascus-based Ba'ath Party" while the list article for Ba'athist movements says the so-called "Party of the Democratic Arab Vanguard" is the Tunisian branch of the party. Neither claim is properly sourced and I have no idea which one is correct. Does anyone know for sure? Charles Essie (talk) 02:25, 8 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure. There is a "Party of the Democratic Arab Vanguard" (حزب الطليعة العربي الديمقراطي), emerging as a 2011 split from the pro-Iraqi Ba'ath Movement. There are a few mentions of the party in Syrian media, but can't find any clear indication that the party is a formal regional branch of the party. --Soman (talk) 03:15, 8 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
