Merge proposal[edit]

Should we merge the Eternal Fire article into this? I don't see much point of having two seperate articles with so little information.141.161.31.47 18:55, 16 February 2006 (UTC) Matt[reply]

  • I agree. The two articles more or less cover the same ground, and you can't discuss the oil field without discussing the fire. | Klaw ¡digame! 19:03, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • I've merged the content from the eternal fire article into Baba Gurgur. Both parts of this article still need touching up, however.141.161.31.47 19:16, 16 February 2006 (UTC) Matt[reply]

Citations needed[edit]

Alright, I've reviewed this page, tried to make some edits, but this may require a large re-write, with more sources needed. The only source given is something in Arabic, which I can neither read nor understand. What 'authority' is mentioned as putting it up the signs? The Iraq government? Under Saddam or currently? etc. Also, I'd like to find the Herodotus citation.141.161.31.47 19:17, 16 February 2006 (UTC) Matt[reply]

Script needed[edit]

Kurdish is written with the Arabic alphabet in Iraq. The Arabic given is not Baba Gurgur but must be Eternal Fire, as far as I can read. Rigadoun (talk) 19:43, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Microbiological environment[edit]

Any journals mention the microbial life found at this site? I was wondering if any mushrooms or bacteria there remediate oil; or if any extremeophiles exist close to the flame, or perhaps something eats the natural gas. CensoredScribe (talk) 22:47, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cause and effect[edit]

Latitude and longitude[edit]

I couldn't find any data on the exact location of the Eternal Fire, so have added a guess at the latitude and longitude in the Eternal Fire section - I would appreciate if someone can verify these, as they are only the result of some long-distance research (via Google Maps, reading articles and comparing photos). Advice on how to format the link appreciated too, since the Baba Gurgur page already has GPS coordinates built in I'm not sure how to specify a different set for this section.Sparkytheteacher (talk) 13:23, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Large Oil Field?[edit]

"The field is 40 meters in diameter..." This does not seem reasonable.Longinus876 (talk) 07:13, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
