Title

[edit]

Hi. In an undiscussed move (which the editor should reasonably have been expected to be potentially controversial given discussions elsewhere, including on my own talkpage) an editor moved the title from Ballineen and Enniskean railway station to Ballineen and Enniskeane railway station. In doing this the editor bypassed the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage source and stated that this change instead was:

  • supported by an entry in The Directory of Railway Stations (Stephens pub. 1995). What page in this work is the related entry Aquabluetesla? I ask because my local library has a copy of this book in the reference section, and I'll go take a look to aid in WP:VER.
  • supported by consensus and that restoring the original "name of page [..] would be against consensus". What consensus discussion are you referring to Aquabluetesla? I ask because I cannot see any established consensus in this regard. (Other than that the article has been stable at its original title for well over a decade).
  • supported by a 1906 map. What map are you referring to Aquabluetesla? I ask because the 25 inch OSI map (c.1890s) and 6 inch OSI map (c.1900s) both give "Ballineen & Enniskean Station"? And the "original 1906 map" linked from that webpage behind that "Click Here to see the original map drawn in 1906" prompt (not the later copy) gives "Ballyneen & Enniskeen". And not what you've asserted.

@Aquabluetesla: Can you please address the concerns above (and in the tags in the article) about the map? Also, a contact of mine has a copy of The Directory of Railway Stations (Butt; 1995; Stephens pub.), and cannot find the entry you mentioned in your EDSUMMs to justify this move and this change. On what page of that book is the entry you mention please? Guliolopez (talk) 19:03, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As above, to justify this move and this change the editor Aquabluetesla stated that "the book referenced in the further reading section [..Butt (1995) The Directory of Railway Stations..] indicate the station is 'Enniskeane', with an 'e', not 'Enniskean'." While the editor has not responded to my query above, and the related changes and move have since been reverted, to be 100% clear, the entries in Butt (1995) pages 24 and 92 absolutely do not use the claimed spelling. And, in fact, directly support the existing/current spelling and text. Editors are reminded to check sources and to avoid (inadvertently or otherwise) misrepresenting sources. Map

[edit]

FYI. The File:Cork, Bandon & South Coast Railway.jpg map, on which the station is marked as "Ballyneen & Enniskeen", is an extract/detail from this all-Ireland File:Map Rail Ireland Viceregal Commission 1906.jpg map. Using either to support a claim that the station was called or known as something else is, frankly, a bizarre thing to do. And transparently invalid. Guliolopez (talk) 13:57, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
