Banistmo S.A.
[edit]The current Banistmo website refers to Banistmo S.A. According to the Panamanian company registry, that company was set up in 2004 and seems to be a different company to Primer Banco del Istmo.
I wonder if we should break the redirect and have Banistmo as a page for the existing bank ? -- Beardo (talk) 22:53, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

Primer Banco del Istmo → Banistmo – The official name of the bank has changed since its acquisition by Bancolombia. It is officially known as Banistmo and not the other name. - Oppose move for the usual reasons. No evidence has been provided that "Banistmo" is the common name. ONR (talk) 01:28, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Old Naval Rooftops: The original and official name of the bank was "Primer Banco del Istmo" up until it was merged with HSBC Panama. Banistmo was just the nickname that the bank and many would use although not it's official name. Then HSBC sold its Panama division to Bancolombia who officially renamed it as Banistmo. You can find articles in Spanish on this, YouTube videos, and the fact that all their social media and official documents lists them as Banistmo and not Primer Banco del Istmo like before since they are technically a new bank. - This does not address the argument given. Andrewa (talk) 11:59, 1 October 2018 (UTC)

- Support, a basic simple research denotes "Primer Banco del Istmo" is outdated. Also ONR, Wikipedia is not a bureaucracy. © Tbhotch™ (en-2.5). 03:54, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
- Granted that Wikipedia is not a bureaucracy, but Wikipedia does have rules, and a basic simple research of these rules denotes that "Primer Banco del Istmo" is outdated only if reliable secondary (English) sources cease to prefer it. Andrewa (talk) 11:59, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose. No evidence yet given that the common name in English has changed. Andrewa (talk) 11:54, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- Support per WP:NAMECHANGES. A Google search for the old name shows mainly results from 2006 and 2008 etc.[1] Whereas the new name shows large numbers of results,[2] including English news sources such as [3]. As Tbhotch says above, a simple bit of research reveals that the new name is overwhelmingly the one in use right now, and if the opposers here had bothered to go and either verify or refute that, instead of just opposing because there was no direct evidence presented, I'm sure they would have found the same thing I did. Thanks — Amakuru (talk) 15:56, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
- Support. It's only a bank, people would follow the official name. The fact that all their name in social media is changed as claimed by the nominator is enough for me. Hddty. (talk) 01:41, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
- Support per research provided by Amakuru. Cheers! bd2412 T 02:19, 20 October 2018 (UTC)
- Support. Those opposes seem purely procedural, the objectors seem to have made no effort to see if the version they are arguing to maintain has any current prevalence. Wall St Journal, Forbes and Financial Times have not a single result on searching for Primer Banco del Istmo (but one for Primer Banco de Istmo), so I would challenge them to justify the retention of a name that is clearly now discontinued.
