Former lolicon artist?[edit]

I can't for the life of me find any confirmation on this on the web, neither in Japanese nor in English. This includes the Japanese Wikipedia. One of the few pages that goes into any detail about Barasui is the interview at http://www.manganomori.net/00000001/mag67.htm. No mention of him having drawn porn there. There is however quite a bit of talk about how he used to draw illustrations for game magazines before Ichigo Mashimaro (and these game magazines appear to be normal ones, so it's probably safe to say that's not the lolicon artist past that he is supposed to have).

This rumor has also come up several times on 4chan's anime board, but never have I seen anyone manage to back it up with references to the actual material. And some of those people really know their porn.

My theory is that it's all a misunderstanding based on the scanlation of Ichigo Mashimaro manga vol. 1, page 169 where the origins of IM are discussed. There's a reference to a "lolicon illustration corner" there, but it's a slightly awkward translation of the original Japanese. In the original, it's obvious that what's referenced is a section of Dengeki Daioh, which is a magazine aimed at teenagers and above. Therefore it probably wouldn't publish porn, especially lolicon.

A doujin called Burubara is sometimes mistankenly thought to have been made by Barasui, because his name appears in the cover image. The phrase is however "Barasui works and Buruma fanbook", which is trying to say it is based on Barasui's works and, well, bloomers. It's actually made by "BLACK LIST/HiuraR" and "SHIMOBOARD/Shimosan" (also mentioned in the cover). Furthermore, it came out in 2004 (again mentioned in the cover), when Ichigo Mashimaro had been running for a couple of years already, and the art style doesn't much resemble Barasui's. 81.197.160.252 23:56, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I did some research about this matter. Aparently Barasui also draws for a magazine called Denjeki Moeoh wich features Lolikon drawings. The art and the magazine itself is clasified at +18 but the drawings I've seen from Barasui aren't heavy on sexual content (actually I've only seen some covers. Try Google to see it yourself). His works on this magazine are as ecchi as the Ichigo Mashimaro manga can be, you know, panties shots as much, and I'm pretty sure that's as far as Barasui would go.
