Here are the issues I found:

"Gilligan began his professional career playing right field in 1874 for the New York Flyaways" are the Flyaways a minor league team? an independent team? Since there's no article adding a bit of detail here would help.

Amateur team, added.

"He continued his professional baseball career in 1876 and 1877." since there's no teams listed, are we sure he continued or is it just presumption?
