Questions

[edit]

The article does not yet answer these questions:

  1. How many Batzen (or Rappen) made up an 1805 Basel frank?
  2. What happened after the 1833 partition of Basel into two cantons? Did both use the Basel frank?
  3. How long did other currencies continue to be used in the Basel economy?
  4. Where and when was Basel currency acceptable outside of Basel?
  5. When did the Basel frank cease to be legal tender even in Basel?
  6. What did coins look like?

These questions are meant for reference, not as criticism. I hope they get others to contribute as well. I've read some descriptions in Lionel Gossman's Basel in the Age of Burckhardt and have seen pictures as well in René Teutenberg's Basler Geschichte. When I get my hands on a copy of either, I'll add to this article. -- 17:20, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

In response to your questions
  1. Is already in the article but I will clarify.
  2. The coinage had ceased to be issued by then, no new issues were made for the new cantons.
  3. A very difficult one. Hopefully your book will help.
  4. As 3.
  5. Probably 1850 when the Swiss franc was introduced.
  6. All had the arms of the Canton on one side, many had a cross with a letter C in the middle on the other side. Pictures don't appear to be available on the internet.
