Merger discussion

[edit]

I propose that Bathgate (1986) railway station and Bathgate (New) railway station be merged and given the title Bathgate railway station. The reasons for this are twofold:

  1. The primary topic for a railway station article should always be the current, open station.
  2. The new station (opened 2010) is a direct replacement for the station opened in 1986, thereby assuming its station code etc. Information such as usage statistics that was relevant to the 1986 station should now apply to the 2010 station. It doesn't make sense to me to keep these separate, leading to articles duplicating information. (I would say that this was more of a relocation, rather than a closure and an opening.)

The same applies to Drumgelloch railway station and Drumgelloch (New) railway station, at the other end of the Airdrie-Bathgate Rail Link. --RFBailey (talk) 03:10, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The 2010 station article has been moved to this title. That still leaves point number 2! --RFBailey (talk) 06:06, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The premise on Point 2 is debatable. The 1986 station was a single platform basic station. The new station is built with Car Park, lifts, footbridge, etc. Same applies to Drumgelloch railway station/Drumgelloch (New) railway station. Information should not be duplicated, that is a result of bad editting (Paste/Copy) - probably self included. The only commonality is the reason for closing the old station is the opening of the new station. The services patterns for the new station will be totally different. --Stewart (talk | edits) 12:24, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
