"While not a total victory (in fact, the Austrians had suffered higher losses than the Piedmontese)" Actually only the captured or missing figures are much higher because of the "single brigade cover in this area" which was advancing on mountain side being attacked from the rear by the bulk of the I Corps, and although that brigade soilders and officers fought braverly themselves, they had no choice but to retreat and about 1000 soilders were either captured or missing. In addition, when attacking, the numbers on attack side are often larger (the well-known "at least 3:1 ratio" rule) and losses are higher, totally normal. In this case, the dead and wounded were not much different. More importantly, if victory is determined by figure of losses, then the Soviet Union already lost to Germany in the World War II.

Description of number of troops and casualties are vague and unclear[edit]

The number of troops as state on here also differs from the detailed description from July 22 to 27 and aftermath on Custoza battle on German wiki especially it included an reinforcement of 25000 Sardinian troops arrived on July 25 in the flank of an Austrian brigade of 6000 and attacked the latter from behind. Micheal Embree's book should be added[edit]

Micheal Embree had published his Radetzky's Marches: The Campaigns of 1848 and 1849 in Upper Italy recently in 2013, well-researched with extensive bibliography from both Austrian and Italian sources, neutral and without taking side. His book was used as direct sources in some campaigns such as Battle of Goito here, it would be really helpful if someone use his book for Custoza and Novara. 2604:3D09:D07F:E580:0:0:0:766E (talk) 14:23, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
