Not a hoax. This is one lazy stub though. Not so lazy, anymore. 23:08, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Which Royal George?

[edit]

According to the entry for HMS Royal George, there was no Royal George in commission during the battle. Where is the error? 23:08, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Royal George (1788)

[edit]

That's which Royal George. V. Joe 23:10, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Distinguish between the two subsequent battles

[edit]

This battle is actually the Second Battle of Groix Island. The first battle had taken place a few days earlier on 15 June, where Villaret de Joyeuse chased another small British squadron under the command of Vice-Admiral William Cornwallis. --Ken Johnson 17:38, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Révolutionnaire

[edit]

Hello,

it seems that since [1], we've had a Révolutionnaire mentionned in the French fleet. Since the frigate Révolutionnaire served in the Royal Navy at the time and the 110-gun Révolutionnaire (ex-Bretagne) was in no condition to sail at the time, I can't really see what ship is mentioned there. Would it be HMS Révolutionnaire misplaced in the French rather than the British squadron? Rama (talk) 09:09, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think that is correct, yes.--Jackyd101 (talk) 00:21, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

[edit]

This is just a notice to any one interested in this article that I will be developing a fully explained and sourced version of this article in my userpace over the next week or so, to be uploaded here once complete. It will be loosely based on the current text, but will be extensively sourced, expanded and rewritten. The orders of battle will be removed for space reasons, and a new article Order of Battle in the Biscay campaign of June 1795 created to replace them. I note that apart from User:Rama there has been no serious activity on this page, but should any one have any comments, requests or questions then please notify me either here or at my talk page and I will do my best to respond and incorporated the results into the finished article.--Jackyd101 (talk) 00:21, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have completed the new article, using British and French sources to create as complete a picture as possible of this battle with the resources available to me. I have also developed the OOB promised above at Order of Battle in the Biscay campaign of June 1795. For the sequence of edits leading up to the new version of text, which I have pasted over the old version, see User:jackyd101/Battle of Groix. I welcome further additions to this article, particularly from French sources, which seem to cover it in even greater detail than the British (unusual for a defeat). I will also be working to integrate more of User:Rama's work into both articles over the next few weeks. Any concerns or questions please send them my way.--Jackyd101 (talk) 23:39, 28 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
