I know. See this. I'm not sure which is which. --Candide, or Optimism 01:55, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ro victory[edit]

The battle was a Ro victory. The Germans retreated after suffering huge loses. Sure, Ro could not regain the occupied territory and would soon sign a peace treaty, but the battle itself was a Ro victory. The aftermath is a different chapter. If you wish, you can expand the aftermath section. --Candide, or Optimism 13:07, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Decisive?[edit]

I know this is a tricky issue, and is often harped upon in battle articles, but exactly why is this called a "decisive" Romanian victory?

I have no issues with the victory part - the statistics alone seem clearly to confirm it - but "decisive"? Is it decisive because it prevented Romania's immediate defeat?

Mojowiha (talk) 10:25, 17 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, by all definitions ("an indisputable military victory of a battle that determines or significantly influences the ultimate result of a conflict" or "a victory which decides the outcome to a campaign, though not necessarily to the war as a whole") it was not a decisive victory, since it neither decided the outcome of the campaign on the Romanian front (it stopped the German offensive, but it didn't pave the way for liberating Wallachia and Dobruja, occupied by the Central Powers) nor influenced the result of the conflict. Other thoughts? Mentatus (talk) 10:55, 17 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, no. I do not have detailed knowledge of the WW1 Eastern front in general, nor of the Romanian Campaign in particular. I was just struck by the "decisive" point. Mojowiha (talk) 11:51, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

General review of article deficiencies and confusions.[edit]

Am I the only one that just gets confused by this article since the general knowledge of people in the US of the area and the accomplishments of those involved up to this time are going to be not resoundingly known.

  • 1. Why was it a major battle?
  • 2. Of course the Rom's participated in a joint action-that is the whole point of a "Russian-Romanian offensive".
  • 3. Is there a difference between "Mărășești" and "Mărăști" ?
  • 4. "salient" is not the most understood and best word to use for a thrust in the front.
  • 5. "was thought to be taken at Nămoloasa" What is that suppose to mean? Did someone shorten a paragraph by one too many sentences?
  • 6. "both sides were counting at that moment about 1 million soldiers" is that an awkward expression for the troop build-up was 1 mil between the forces?
  • 7. "It must be admitted that the Russian army was nearly useless by this point in the war." Well, how can one agree when knowledge as to why is missing?
  • 8. "German attempt to crush the last Romanian army had failed" Is that an attempt to say that the last Romanian offensive was the intended crush by the German's rather than the entire Army?
  • 9. How was the death of Romanian heroine Ecaterina Teodoroiu so notable?76.171.14.188 (talk) 07:01, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Why so ignored?[edit]

Guys, it's not only that I'm Romanian, but this is awesome! Just look at those casualties! The Germans in WW1 usually come out with less casualties from a fight, even if they loose the battle. But here, we totally wipe the floor with them! You know, I did looked through all the Battles of World War 1 that have an article on the Wiki, and in which Germany participated. And none of them is a more categorical Allied victory than the Romanian victory at Mărășești! Seriously, it deserves WAY more attention and WAY more analysis and WAY more praise! Just think about it: You, with all of your "Great Power" statuses, with all your large and advanced militaries, could not achieve what we little Romania achieved! This battle allows me to deny the stereotypical conception that Germany would undoubtedly defeat Romania! If someone would say this, I'd show him this battle and also ask: "What was you saying?" This battle truly is a Romanian gem!

Ofcourse it is[edit]

Changed back to "Romanian victory" because ofcourse it is. And I would appreciate if you'd leave it like that. Give Romania, what is Romania's, I don't think I ask too much. Romanian-and-proud (talk) 16:04, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
