International reactions[edit]

The section titled "International reactions" in this version records reactions to a different and unrelated incident, the shelling of civilians. Since this incident occurred after the Battle of Mullaitivu ended, and this incident is not related to the battle, I don't think they need to be included here. A separate article should be created for this incident, and these reactions can go there in full detail (in addition to being included in the main articles about the civil war). For this article, however, all that is needed is a mention of this incident and the reactions in the aftermath section. We must not go into full details here about this, and should instead focus on the battle. I will remove these comments unless there are any convincing objections. I should add that I'm talking about only the comments related to the shelling incident and the evacuating of patients. There are also comments that should be included, such as reaction of India, UN etc. Chamal talk 11:09, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I see your suggestion is in good faith. As the reactions of Norway and Germany etc. show these ongoing hostilities have been condemned and the unacceptable suffering of civilians. Therefore a mention here and more details on another article is fine with me.Wubbabubba (talk) 11:16, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I had added reaction of India and US to the section. Also I did some kind of formatting and made out a new section as is the usual practice on most articles. If the reactions offered by Germany and Norway are not related to this battle then they ought to be yanked out. India, UN and US reactions are relevant and should stay in my opinion. I would leave it to my good friend Chamal N to decide what should be removed/kept. --GPPande 06:53, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'll do some more research into this and make the changes then. Until then, no harm in keeping them a little longer :) There's a lot of controversy about the shelling incident too; now the government is saying that it's entirely fabricated. Chamal talk 11:17, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Misspelling[edit]

Isn't Mullaitivu spelled with a double t

As like in this: Mullaittivu

I have seen it spelled in this way in many news articles such as this one [1] or with the "official" Sri Lankan Army website [2] --68.73.122.158 (talk) 02:58, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There are several ways people spell it; Mullaitivu, Mullaithivu, Mullativu, Mullaitiv etc. Mullaitivu is the one that is commonly used (in many news sites and even defence.lk), and is used that way in the government website for the district secretariat (http://www.ds.gov.lk/dist_mullaitivu/english/). Also see the administrative map of the area from the IFSP website, which also records it this way. So obviously Mullaitivu is the correct spelling, and is therefore used in the article. Redirects should be created from the other versions of the name. Chamal talk 11:37, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Velupillai Prabhakaran[edit]
