Arkansas Mounted Rifles

[edit]

As far as I can tell the two Arkansas Mounted Rifle Regiments were not dismounted at this date. Unfortunatelly I don't recall the source to back this up. I believe they were only dismounted when they were transferred further East (Corinth I believe, but maybe Vicksburg). So could anyone with a handy source confirm whether they were mounted or dismounted. According to the OR the two regiments also belonged to McIntosh's brigade (also logical as McIntosh was Colonel of the 2nd Arkansas MR), not Hébert's.--Caranorn 11:43, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay I finally found a source (and also bought Shea and Hess' book). According to William Tunnard (commander of the 3rd Louisiana of Hébert's Brigade) these units were dismounted at the beginning of the Pea Ridge Campaign... --Caranorn (talk) 19:38, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

slight reorganisation

[edit]

1) I separated the Confederates into two wings as that's essentially how they operated. 2) I separated Pike's command from McCulloch's division as that brigade never belonged to the division. 3) I moved Pike into the same line with Greer concerning command of McCulloch's division as they "simultaneously" assumed command. 4) I removed the term dismounted from the two Arkansas Mounted Rifle Regiments, this is a mistake, there is no indication they were dismounted before Pea Ridge while material exists to demonstrate this happened after their transfer further east. Note that the order of battle as given still contradicts information in the Official Records, particularly for McCulloch's wing. But going further would probably constitute original research. Though I will at least look into the command issue for Hébert's brigade, as I seem to recall Churchill assuming command, not McNair (who certainly commanded the brigade after it's transfer east).--Caranorn 13:27, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article reassessed and graded as stub. Not sure why this is a seperate article and not a section within the Battle of Pea Ridge--dashiellx (talk) 18:33, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
