Claims about the exact numbers on either side must be treated with caution. However, given that the rebels seem to have had a fairly easy victory, and the rebellion had the support of the majority of the political community, I am sceptical about claims that they were outnumbered. I suspect that, like other claims about the battle, this could be embellishment by later chroniclers. PatGallacher 22:42, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Agree, also there is no mention of Bell-the-Cat Earl of Angus, Earl of Argyll etc the principal rebel leaders, but only relatively minor nobility such as Home, Hepburn of Hailes and Gray.Brendandh 15:11, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I personally don't know alot about Scottish civl wars, but 48,000 people Scots in one battle? That seems a little absurd. Find some sources on that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.68.12.46 (talk) 18:32, 2 July 2009 (UTC) Absolutely. There's no record of any medieval Scottish army of anything like 30,000.[reply]

Agreed, this also seems quite a large battle by the standards of wars involving Scotland around taht time. This article needs improvement, I suggest MadDougall's biogarphy of James III is the best source. PatGallacher (talk) 10:44, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'll have a read up on it over the next wee while, but it seems to me the simplest thing is to delete all reference to the size of the armies and make clear how little is actually known about the battle. Calcinations (talk) 16:27, 2 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the ugly orange banners since it looks like this troop strength problem is settled. KungFuKarla (talk) 12:56, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Strength?

[edit]

Do we have a source on the strength of the forces involved? A total of 48k seems very high for Scotland. Bill the Cat 7 (talk) 01:21, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
