Terrorist category[edit]

Surprised that this has been included in the category "French terrorists". The Maquis was part of the FFI, which was answerable to Free France, and supported by the allies. As such, it was surely pursuing a state of war with Germany. Therefore not terrorist. Folks at 137 21:21, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

terrorist is a POV like traitor or loyalist. for germany and vichy they were terrorists, for the french they were resistants, a politically correct word for terrorist is saboteur. Cliché Online (talk) 11:25, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Arms not forthcoming[edit]

"appealed to Free French agencies based in London to supply arms and heavier weaponry to counter the German action, but none was forthcoming." Actually, shortly before the German glider attack, arms were dropped into the Vercors on July 14, 1944 from 72 B17 bombers. A commando of French-speaking US OSS were parachuted in on June 29, 1944 as part of Operation Justine to help train the Maquis in their use. Much of the materiel dropped was apparently destroyed from the air. A book by Bernard Coliat called Vercors 1944 chronicles (in French) the adventures of Delmar Calvert, a member of the commando, and reports these details. In fiction[edit]

RE: "The maquis du Vercors is depicted and veterans act in Pierre Schoendoerffer's Above the Clouds (Là-Haut) 2002 feature film...." I tried to find more material on this film, including sources for the film itself. Everything I found in Google searches indicated that this was a film about the French war in Vietnam, not about the resistance movement on the Vercours plateau in WWII. I have come to the conclusion that the reference (quoted above) in this section is probably incorrect. Can anyone clarify this matter? Improvements to the Maquis du Vercors article.[edit]

I am French and registered on French version of Wiki, but I tried (in French and in English on this page) to improve the part "Order of battle" I had already written, naming as many reliable and verifiable sources in English as I could. Change name of article[edit]

I propose to change the name of this article to Battle of Vercors. That's what the article is about. Plus, there's no reason to have the title of the article in French rather than English. The companion article is named Vercors Massif (English) not Massif du Vercors (French). Smallchief (talk) 13:21, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Scope of this article[edit]

So currently this article faces an issue, it initially served to cover the topic only on a French Resistance cell who rose up against the Germans and eventually was suppressed, however later this article was merged with Battle of Vercors, which was an allied success and occurred in tandem with the uprising. Overall this article needs to focus on the overall wider battle of Vercors, and all that came with it, in it's current scope, the coverage is generally adequate but during the merge the dates were changed as the uprising did not occur into August whilst the battle did, as the article itself goes into detail. The unsuccessful partisan uprising has been confused with the actual battle which occurred, while the resistance cell was an important and crucial part of the battle there were other important factors towards the battle with soldiers of all allied nations fighting for Vercors. Would just like to go over this as I find it fairly interesting going through these old diffs as well as a seriously important to the article. Many thanks.
