June 11th Casualties[edit]

It seems to me that the casualties given for Saturday June 11th for the rebels (20 dead, 80 wounded) are actually a recycled variation of the casualties for Friday June 10th. According to this article for instance [1], which also seems to be at least partially the source for the referenced article, it clearly gives the figure of 20 dead for Friday. Further, in the reference for this page it is not clear that it even refers to Saturday. It does seem that there was some shelling on Misrata's western outskirts Saturday, but it was not nearly as intense as it was on Friday. I'd say the casualty figure should be reduced until Saturday's toll becomes clearer. Jetpower45 (talk) 01:47, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ali Attalah Obeidi killed = Suliman Mahmoud al-Obeidi killed?[edit]

Are these names of senior rebel commanders the same people, as the infobox for this article suggests? Jetpower45 (talk) 19:14, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Page for the 2nd battle of Zliten?[edit]

Since the battle seems to be ongoing in Zliten instead of the Misrata-Zliten road, shouldn't the battle have its own page? Noneofyour (talk) 19:37, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree; Zliten is separate from Misrata and should be treated as such. The one issue is that the other Zliten page isn't called 'Battle of Zliten', it's "Zliten Uprising". Since this conflict is an actual battle, not just an uprising, i'm not 100% on what to call it. Either way; i support. Fancyflyboy (talk) 21:52, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Would wait two more days before creating a Battle of Zliten article because there is a possibility the loyalists may just push back the rebels back out on the highway. They already initiated a counter-attack today. If the fighting is still ongoing in two days we create article. EkoGraf (talk) 01:27, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Guess I was right, CNN and BBC got a tour of the city and reported no sign of rebels in the city center. EkoGraf (talk) 23:06, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

But there's still fighting there; much of it 81.98.167.142 (talk) 08:37, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
But the battle is no longer in the heart of Zliten, it has moved to the outskirt areas. Noneofyour (talk) 00:10, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. However; i think if the battle returns to Zliten in earnest a page should be made encompassing the events of the past couple weeks. 81.98.167.142 (talk) 09:40, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Not unless the fighting is in Zliten proper for a substantial amount of time. Brief and inconclusive rebel incursions into Zliten do not warrant their own articles; they are business as usual in this battle. ~~ Lothar von Richthofen (talk) 21:11, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As fighting has returned to Zliten proper, I have boldly split off a Second Battle of Zliten article while keeping most of the major points, particularly the loyalist counterattacks east of Zliten, in this article as well. -Kudzu1 (talk) 18:21, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Casualties[edit]

It seems wrong and unlogical to put the casualties of 32 Gaddafi forces killed in a supposed NATO airstrike when we know that the rebels have absolutely no mean to verify that. It was way beyond their reach.

What is more illogical is to have Khamis alive on the page and then to add the casualties announced by the rebels so one part you consider they lie one part you consider they say the truth. It is a big blow to this page credibility. --FreemanSA (talk) 14:47, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What credibility? Very usefull if reading between the lines though.89.102.1.194 (talk) 22:19, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rename?[edit]

Would a better name for this page be the Misrata Breakout campaign (similar to the Normandy Breakout campaign) rather than battle of the frontline, which is kind of redundant? 74.179.213.114 (talk) 19:04, 12 August 2011 (UTC)FFShinra[reply]

I'm not really sure what to say, to me it seems the battle isn't really centered around Misrata now. Its pretty much around the Zliten Outskirts. Noneofyour (talk) 19:57, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Change name to Dafniyah-Zliten[edit]

The fighting has moved back and forth in the area of Dafniyah, on the outskirts of Misrata, and in Zliten, and it's essentially a battle for control of Zliten. It is not taking place in Misrata proper. The Zliten uprising article should also be merged into this article. Scottbp (talk) 05:49, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Zliten uprising happened when the front was around 45 kilometers away. This was already discussed and majority of editors did not support this. Misrata rebels are still unable to advance into Zliten so the battle for the city has not started yet. Frontline is still around 10 kilometers east of Zliten. Dafniya is a suburb of Misrata. Everyone mostly describe it as part of the Misrata front even though they are talking about fighting at Zliten. When the front passes Zliten that is the end of this battle. Just like the front has passed Tuwarga we are not reporting in the context of this article any more fighting happening pass Tuwarga. EkoGraf (talk) 07:58, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why not Misrata breakout then? The term has been used before to describe a similar situation with Normandy in WWII. Battle of the frontline makes no sense. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.179.213.114 (talk) 18:17, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If it was one major breakout event than ok. But it wasn't much of a breakout since it was a fixed stalemated frontline for three months. What is a breakout are the battles of Tawarga and Zliten in the last 2 weeks. But everything before that was just one, almost trench-like, frontline. And the normandy breakout that you talk about was one operation (lasting a few days) at the end of a two-month campaign. EkoGraf (talk) 17:29, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

By that logic, all the battles of WWI should be renamed the same way. Why not rename this the Zliten campaign then? It still makes better sense than "battle of the frontline". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.172.228.7 (talk) 02:17, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Map maybe?[edit]

It would be nice to have a closeup map of this region. :) --93.140.152.197 (talk) 14:55, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
