The bead and adhering substance is then heated in the lower, reducing, part of the flame, allowed to cool, and the colour observed. It is then heated in the lower, oxidising, part of the flame, allowed to cool, and the colour observed again.

The lower part can't be both reducing and oxidising. Presumably the lower part is reducing and the upper part oxidising? 193.128.127.33 17:28, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
