Bears Paw Mountains[edit]

Moved from my talk page: The photo in this article IS McCann Butte. In fact, I challenge you to find any map of the Bear Paw Mountains showing an Eagle Buttle. Here is a link to a current photo of the same butte from the west looking east:

McCann Butte is listed on all maps. It is the furthest east point of the Bear Paw Mountains. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JohnnyBlood2 (talkcontribs) 08:05, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You appear to be correct, but the source photo identifies it as "Eagle Butte". I noticed that in this source it says, "A section of the Eagle Sandstone exposed south of McCann Butte is about 200 feet thick;" Perhaps that is where the confusion occurs? Was there a name change at some point, or a movement to change the name? Take a look at the image source and maybe track it back... could be an original error, but if there has been a name change, that's worth noting too. Montanabw(talk) 08:25, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

According to the USGS Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) there is no Eagle Butte in Blaine County, Montana. There is one obscure reference to Eagle Butte made by Montana Water Resource Board in the Water Resources Survey (Blaine County, Montana) published in June 1967 (Page 20), but that's all. No one calls this Eagle Butte. It is McCann Butte. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JohnnyBlood2 (talkcontribs) 11:00, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
