I have removed this section for now, as I could find no references that support the idea of this name being seriously suggested.

The Name

Tyrenga is a new name proposed for the creature. It has been suggested it could be the offspring of an escaped black puma that may have mated with another large cat (probably a leopard) to produce a new breed that is much stronger and agile than a normal puma (Felis concolor) or panther (Panthera pardus). If so, it belongs to the genus Panthera. “Tyrenga” is the shortening of Panthera tyrannis englandia - “England’s Tyrant Cat“. This zoological name has been proposed to replace the more colourful “Beast Of Exmoor” which has always been implied to be a mythical big cat. But since the Tyrenga has been photographed at least twice, some claim its existence is no longer speculative.

Paranormal explanations

These are wildy far-fetched, totally speculative and use phrases such as "some people believe...". I am removing them. If there are citable sources stating this belief, then they could perhaps be included. Arthur Holland 12:52, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Use of term "panther."

"Most accounts report the animal as being a large cat either resembling a puma or a panther." This sentence makes no sense. The term "panther" does not refer to a specific species of cat, but is a generic term that has been used to refer to several different species of large cat, including pumas. life span

the part about the life span of a cougar or a leopard seems to be synthesis, and a bit puzzling. I am not arguing that those are the life spans, but since most of the events mentioned in this article are in the early 80s, a cougar could easily live that long. 71.194.44.209 (talk) 23:19, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
