[edit]

The category Female Serial Killer, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Female_serial_killers is used. This should be changed to Male Serial Killer, because Schmidt was male when the crimes were committed, and at sentence. Including this in Female serial killer would also lead to incorrect statistics.

Including her in male serial killers would also lead to incorrect statistics. Only men are male. Trans women are women, full stop. The easiest solution is probably to exclude her from such statistics and to leave her case separate, considering that transgender serial killers aren't exactly common. This case even seems to be fairly unique or at the very least rare (even if fiction may make you believe otherwise). --Florian Blaschke (talk) 11:47, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I thought:
  • "male" / "female" are adjectives which depend on the person's sex
  • whether someone is a "man" / "woman" depends on their gender
This person changed their gender rather than their sex, so:
  • "man" is incorrect
  • "woman" is correct
  • "male" is correct
  • "female" is incorrect

The adjective female can describe a person's sex or gender identity, per Female. It will depend on context but referring to a trans woman as male and/or tans man as female is generally not going to interpreted very favourably. There's a reason that the terms AFAB/AMAB exists. In terms of Wikipedia guidelines (MOS:GENDERID) it's best to err on the side of caution. Cakelot1 ☞️ talk 16:06, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
thank you Florian. I will wait a couple of days to allow feedback, then remove the Category Female Serial Killers Heradatus (talk) 16:57, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Heradatus: You should ask feedback about this issue at a place where more people can see it. I suggest WP:EAR. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 02:50, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
