You dont generally "tug" a bell rope to ring a bell you pull it. Also on what basis is it claimed that "the need for bell ringers has declined", in some parts of the world it has increased and is proving a popular hobby/pasttime/calling for many — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.107.97.247 (talkcontribs) 13:35, January 18, 2011 (UTC)

Medieval superstition?[edit]

It's claimed that "In the Middle Ages, it was believed that the sound of a bell could disperse thunder" yet the examples used to back this claim are from the 18th century. Moreover, the source for this claim is "The Warfare of Science With Theology", a book from the late 19th century which has been thoroughly criticised for being unhistorical in many of its postulations. Now I'm not saying this claim is wrong, or even that White is wrong when writing about this, but I feel there should be more modern documentation of it to meet the wikipedia standard. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Erufailon42 (talkcontribs) 09:48, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
