Requested move[edit]

Shouldn't this page be titled the "RSA Benjamin Franklin Medal" so as not to be confused with the "Benjamin Franklin Medal" awarded by the Franklin Institute? 151.199.255.64 01:33, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Franklin Institute Benjamin Franklin Medal (a different page) has been awarded since 1883. The RSA Benjamin Franklin Medal (this page) has been awarded since 1953. The two medals probably should have distinct titles. Jim1138 (talk) 07:21, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose at this time. There's no need to disambiguate an article title unless there is another article that would have exactly the same name. The Franklin Institute's medal currently does not have its own article but is merely described under the "Awards" section of the Franklin Institute article. To avoid any possible confusion, the Franklin Institute's medal's existence is hatnoted on this article. If the Franklin Institute medal should ever get its own article, then a name change might be necessary, but even then I would avoid the acronym RSA. Of the fourteen links to Benjamin Franklin Medal, three are for individuals who were awarded the RSA medal Bernard Lovell, Marjorie Scardino, and Esmond Wright, one is from the RSA, one is Benjamin Franklin Medal (disambiguation), seven are for individuals not listed on this page (which I presume are misdirected for the Franklin Institutes's BFM, and one is a math related work page User:Salix alba/maths/uncategorised maths which I presume is also misdirected. Perhaps this should be a disambiguation page? Should the eight misdirected links be redirected? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jim1138 (talkcontribs) 05:41, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When there are only two pages that require disambiguation, a hatnote is generally used, and a disambiguation page is unnecessary (WP:DAB). (I notice Benjamin Franklin Medal (disambiguation) was created just recently, after this move was requested.) As to misdirected links in other articles: yes, if you are certain they are misdirected, they should be redirected to the correct article (I'm not sure that User page is misdirected though). Moved and disambiguated[edit]

I've set up Benjamin Franklin Medal (Franklin Institute) and Benjamin Franklin Medal (Royal Society of Arts) to separate the two, which were getting confused, and made Benjamin Franklin Medal a disambiguation page. There are also lots of other awards named for Benjamin Franklin, so I'm going to try and make sure all the links are pointing in the right direction, and that other awards are no being confused with these two, which look to be the most prestigious. Also note Franklin Medal, which was the earlier incarnation of the Franklin Institute's medal. Whether separating those two Franklin Institute medals is the right things to do or not, I'm not sure, but the Franklin Institute themselves list these two awards separately. Missing years?[edit]

The RSA website doesn't list anything for 1992 or 2006 or 2007. Should these be listed here as years when the medal was not presented? Carcharoth (talk) 19:42, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
