[edit]

I've been working on an article for Shaeffer as well, the initial article has a few inaccuracies, e.g. Shaeffer's original height was listed in "Procrustes" as six foot eleven inches. The article itself can be made a bit cleaner with less "quoted" references.

I plan on making the Biography section into three subsections of Physical Characteristics, Personality, and History. - John

I've added a Supporting Characters section and several characters from Shaeffer's stories to the section. I've also removed some of noclevername's character biography text which duplicated some of the information added in the history sub-section I added. Sorry about that; I couldn't see an easy way to integrate that text with my own. - John

Thanks to noclevername for adding the comment on Shaeffer being a spendthrift. I'd thought about it but forgotten, though clearly Shaeffer doesn't have a problem spending money and did so even though he ran himself a half-million stars in debt in the two years aftr Nakamura Lines folded. - John

Unwarranted Assumptions

[edit]

Seems like there are an *awful* lot of guesses or assumptions stated here as fact. How do we know Beowulf attended college, let alone where? I think it's much more likely his "History of [Piloting] Errors" course was during pilot training... in fact, his question to Elephant was regarding pilot training right before he mentioned the History of Errors course (in "Flatlander"). How do we know he was the only kid in his group who went on to become a starship pilot? How do we know Nakamura Lines was based on We Made It? Where does it say how long Bey had been a pilot for Nakamura?

I suspect you're depending on I. Marc Carlson's Known Space Chronology. Altho it seems very well researched, it has a lot of outright guesses on it, and it's poorly documented.

You might want to look at my Known Space Timeline [1], which is exhaustively documented. --Lensman003 00:08, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Niven Fandom

[edit]

as a very long time fan of Niven I'm glad he's finally getting his due on WP. Keep up the good work! Bey also appears in "Juggler of Worlds" as a supporting character, but they read as Learner novels, not Niven novels, and Bey loses his unique speech pattern, and becomes uninteresting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.113.80.187 (talk) 06:22, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
