special effects[edit]

Bert I. Gordon's special effects included not only rear projection, but also split screen and double exposure. BIG's split screen effect often blurred the line of demarcation between the fullscale background and the miniature insert, which sort of works when the background is rocks (the first lizard scene in "The Cyclops") or vegetation (the rats in the woods in "Food of the Gods"). The double exposure effect appears to be accomplished by having a mostly white or light grey "giant" or "monster" filmed against a black backdrop, the film negative rewound, and the fullscale background exposed on the the black: the problem with this effect is that the background often "bleeds" through the darker shadows on the "giant" or "monster" (several of the later scenes with the cyclops giant or some shots of the lizards in "The Cyclops" for instance). Naaman Brown (talk) 23:57, 29 July 2011 (UTC) On occasion Bert I. Gordon did use the blue screen technique to create traveling matte effect which is more difficult (the giant feet walking in War of the Colossal Beast are outlined by matte lines.) Best to say Gordon used what he knew best within the budgets he had, but his technique was not limited tp rear projection. --Naaman Brown (talk) 16:35, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

MST3K[edit]

I see no mention of his works featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000. I am not good at editing wikis but I would like to submit my addition to someone more experience to see if it is up to snuff. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MOTOBREATH137 (talkcontribs) 23:13, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
