1899 Disaster[edit]

I haven't found any external sources confirming this, but I believe that there was a disaster in the Besshi Mine in August 1899. I first noticed it on the list of accidents and disasters by death toll, under the "industrial" disasters section. I've also seen it on the list of disasters in Japan by death toll and the article for mining disasters.I at first thought it was a random entry, until beside it on the first list, was the link for Niihama, saying that it happened there, so I clicked on it, and after scrolling down a bit, it brought me here. So I think what this means is that there was a disaster at this mine in 1899. The only issues there being that the first and third ones refer to it as a bronze mine, not a copper mine, and the second one doesn't state what kind of mine it is, but does list the death toll at 567, while the other two say 512. Also the third one doesn't say a date, but the first two say August 28, 1899 (although the second one has a typo where it says 1889, but the name of the disaster is still correctly stated to be 1899).

I don't know. Does anyone else know more about this? PakistinianHurricane (talk) 21:22, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
