[edit]It is considered bad form to write about oneself on wikipedia. Consider whether the information you are providing is useful to the public at large; if not, don't put it in. Why are those alumni notable to the average reader? — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiGnome (talk • contribs)
Move page back to Beth Rivkah
[edit]It is unclear why this page was moved from Beth Rikvah to Bais Rivka. Beth Rivkah is the official spelling on school documents as well as in most media articles. The Montreal branch is called Beth Rikvah Academy, and the Australian branch, Beth Rivkah Ladies College. Yoninah (talk) 14:24, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
- Perhaps the move was inspired by Bais Yaakov, an analogous system of haredi girls schools, which is spelled "Bais". Or the "Bais Rivka Rochel School" in Lakewood. In any case, I very much support the suggestion per the above argument. I Googled "Bais Rivka" and apart from this article, all results on the page spell it "Beth Rivkah", including their official website www.bethrivkah.edu. Debresser (talk) 17:05, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
- Wow! I barely remember that edit. But I don't think it was a move, if I'm correct it was always "Bais" and all I did was add a redirect from "Beth." As far as moving the page to Beth goes, if it's the official name, then that's what WP should go by. I.am.a.qwerty (talk) 09:49, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

Things I'd like to know
[edit]Saw this hook in the DYK queue. Here are some questions, the answers to which might make an even better article:
- What relationship does the school have to a yeshiva? Is it or is not one?
- What does the school teach about evolution and the Big Bang?
— Brianhe (talk) 06:17, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
- Nice questions, @Brianhe:. The school has no relationship to a yeshiva, which is for boys, since it is a girls' school. Some women's programs may call themselves yeshivas, but this is not the case in the Haredi world, in which this school operates. Your second question will take a little more digging... Yoninah (talk) 12:17, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
- I beg to differ: some girls school are ideologically or even organizationally related to yeshives. Debresser (talk) 13:24, 3 September 2015 (UTC)

Removed sections
[edit]Hi all,
User:UrielAcosta removed sections Other secondary schools and Post secondary institutions because these are: "promotional section[s] that [are] not about the subject of this article"; see oldid=1114609454. I don't agree with his assessment. Can we discuss reinstating? Thanks. Fintor (talk) 11:19, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
- They are not, in fact, the subject of the article. The subject is the Beth Rivkah network and not other schools, so an extensive list of other schools is inappropriate (and please remember also that Wikipedia is not a directory). The same problems would apply if this content were added to the article Chabad.
- There is already a Category:Chabad schools (which includes Beth Rivkah) for those schools with linked articles. However, given Chabad's presence in Jewish education, I don't think it would be inappropriate to create a new article (with sources cited) that is a List of Chabad-affiliated schools (just as, for example, there is a List of Chabad websites); the list could then include links to Beth Rivkah, other schools, and Category:Chabad schools, while also including the lists of unlinked schools that were in the content that I removed here.
- UrielAcosta (talk) 22:25, 3 May 2023 (UTC)
- I wasn't intending a list here, rather a discussion of Women's educational institutions within Chabad - i.e. corresponding to the Tomchei Tmimim entry. Would that then need a separate article? Fintor (talk)
