Talk:Bethany (given name)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are entries on Wikipedia for Bethany (Biblical township) and Bethany (girl's given name) that contradict each other. The former suggests that the town is on the "Mount of Olives", and that the name comes from the aramaic language. However, the latter page suggests the girl's name refers to "House of Figs" (surely Olives?!) and that the name is Hebrew in origin.

I, unfortunately, do not have any research to help with confirming one or the other. Sorry! http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Bethany_(given_name)&action=edit# — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dr grantos (talkcontribs) 22:49, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the proper thing to do is to refer to the other article, where a lengthy discussion, with sources, is given. Note that it is not even clear if the origin is Hebrew or Aramaic, which may be an unanswerable question (since these are similar languages and were both used in the area). At any rate the Greek version of the name is the only thing we can be sure of AmirOnWiki (talk) 09:58, 13 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
