The actual full title of the Sonia Song (of the similar name) is Better The Devil You Know Than The Devil You Don't —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.109.255.212 (talk) 01:14, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use of notable cover version single cover

[edit]

Since the image, File:SayYou'llBeMineBTTDYKsingle.jpg has been removed by one editor citing WP:NFCC and reverted by two other editors also citing WP:NFCC, I am starting a discussion here so that the images are not deleted simply for being orphaned.

The single cover for the Steps' cover version pass the points of WP:NFCC. WP:NFCC#3 is met because the single cover is used for identification of Steps' version and the Kylie Minogue single cover cannot convey equivalent significant information and/or identification of Steps' versions. WP:NFCC#8 is met because the single cover is used for identification and the image increases readers' understanding and not having it would be detrimental to the understanding of Steps' versions. The single cover passes the first example of acceptable use of fair images at WP:NFCI: "Cover art: Cover art from various items, for visual identification only in the context of critical commentary of that item (not for identification without critical commentary)."

The current consensus for single covers in section infoboxes to represent notable cover versions are that they pass WP:NFCC and WP:NFCI. Since WP:SONGCOVER says notable cover versions should be covered in the article about the song and not have its own article, but if they had their own articles, the images would be acceptable there, so they are acceptable in the sections of the song article. This single cover is not an alternate cover for the Kylie Minogue cover, it is the primary cover for the Steps' version and should be treated as such. If it is felt that the images should still be removed than the images should be taken to Wikipedia:Files for deletion instead of simply removed from the article. This, in no way, violates the US Fair Use laws (WP:NFC is just a formalism, an attempt to explain US Federal laws), as it has been explained multiple times to Werieth. Is him the one that should discuss this and stop removing such images under a poor excuse. Because of WP:SONGS guides, covers have to be written in the article about the song they are covering, if they were independently written, Werieth would have no problem the cover song had their own cover image. So keep the images until the moment a guide or policy explicity prohibits to have two different cover images of cover songs. We have lawyers, the WMF has lawyers, they can explain why even an alternate cover image of the same song falls into fair use, what is incorrect is to have a similar image in the article, just with a different color, for example. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 18:16, 8 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Keep' - it passes WP:NFCC.--SuperHotWiki (talk) 01:03, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

US EP?

[edit]

There is a different digital EP not detailed here featuring the “US Remix” and multiple “Movers and Shakers” remixes. On Apple Music (UK at least) it appears under Kylie’s Singles and EP, whilst the “maxi-single” actually gets listed under her Albums.

I don’t know the history of these versions but since it’s listed on Kylie’s artist page in Apple Music then perhaps it warrants inclusion on the song’s main page here. Mcnaugha (talk) 12:16, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
