[edit]Robert Aldrich is Professor of European History at the University of Sydney, Australia wrote Cultural Encounters and Homoeroticism in Sri Lanka: Sex and Serendipity, published by Routledge, ISBN-10: 0415742366. As part of this book Aldrich read Bawa's personal memoirs. Quotes from this book which also reference direct references in Bawa's memoirs state;
"there were dozens of beautiful willing young females . . . just for the asking . . . I discovered to my surprise that they did not excite me even a little bit . . . there was, however a most glamorous servant boy whom I couldn't resist inviting into bed."
"the youth . . . sat down . . . and for a few minutes we were one"
"he seldom failed to take notice of the attractive young men"
"photogenic houseboys stayed in his employment for years"
"left Bevis to believe that the youth of his desire was awaiting him"
"homosexual liaisons . . . were easy . . . and more commonly . . . with a village lad . . . in return for employment."
"his most significant companion was . . . a young acquaintance of a planter" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Michael773623 (talk • contribs) 06:57, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
- The reason that I reverted your original edit on Bevis Bawa was because the cited reference you provided (San Rocco - Pure Beauty - 2017), which states "Artworks present in the house frankly document Bawa's use for it for love affairs with local boys, yet these have never been made public" appeared to be more of an author's opinion rather than a validated fact. Given your reference, Cultural Encounters and Homoeroticism in Sri Lanka: Sex and Serendipity by Robert Aldrich, it maybe more appropriate to include a new sub-section "Personal life", which details his homosexuality and his predisposition to younger males.
