The term

[edit]

When did the term/phrase "big bend of Florida" come into existence?

I lived in Gainesville for a few years and never heard "big bend" in reference to Florida, only Texas. 2600:8800:395:B000:6912:65CF:576B:F1F9 (talk) 18:03, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I can't say when I first became aware of the term, but it has been decades. I see several mentions of "Big Bend area" and "Big Bend Coast" in The Geology of Florida, published in 1997 by the University Press of Florida. I have also found that the Big Bend Seagrasses Aquatic Preserve was established in 1985.[1] I am sure the term was in common use well before then. Donald Albury 19:10, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Come to think of it, I probably first became aware of the term when I lived in Tallahassee in the mid-1970s. - Donald Albury 19:15, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
