Grammy Award[edit]

@Lemongirl942: @Magnolia677: I have started this discussion to reach a consensus for Big Pun's Grammy Award nomination. I had changed the reference after being informed IMDb is not reliable source but now that has also been reverted. If the two people who keep reverting my edit would like to assist me in finding a suitable reference? If you perform a Google search for Big Pun many websites refer to him as Grammy nominated rapper. Thanks Smush123 (talk) 19:03, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for starting this talk page discussion. The best source here should be one which is reliable and secondary (preferably a newspaper which a reputation for fact checking) and which should clearly mention the album name and the rapper's name along with the news about the Grammy nominated album (such as the nomination category). This source in LATimes satisfies all of these. satisfies most, but not the category. A better source could be the Grammy website itself. --Lemongirl942 (talk) 19:14, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Smush123: Please don't be so quick to add it. As you see here, the source doesn't say which category it was nominated for. We need to find better references. Could you please self revert? --Lemongirl942 (talk) 19:17, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The LA Times article states "Rios' first album, "Capital Punishment," released in 1998 and featuring the hit single "I Ain't a Player," debuted at No. 5 on the national sales chart and sold more than 2 million copies, making Rios the first Puerto Rican rapper to sell that many albums. It also garnered a Grammy nomination" which would leave one in little doubt what the award was for. Smush123 (talk) 14:03, 3 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Smush123: That is precisely what we call WP:OR. You are assuming that a rapper's album can only be nominated for Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. Since we disagree on this, what is required are sources. Bring sources here and do not edit the article unless we explicitly have consensus here. --Lemongirl942 (talk) 16:21, 3 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Lemongirl942: I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion. The way the LA Times article is written what else could be assumed from it? The album according to the article was nominated for a Grammy and he is a rapper. I also note that you do not help further the information on this Wikipedia page, simply revert things. Could you have not perhaps included a source to get the ball rolling if you felt it wasn't sufficient? Smush123 (talk) 16:59, 3 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Smush123: All of us here are volunteers and we have limited time. In addition to focusing on our editing areas, we also help to maintain the quality of the encyclopaedia - ensuring that content is adequately sourced. The WP:BURDEN of adding a reliable source rests on the editor trying to add the information (and this is a policy). And this is fair. If someone is interested in add some info, they would bring a source. If they cannot bring a source or if the source doesn't verify the info, it means they probably haven't researched well enough. Adding unsourced or poorly sourced content is considered lazy editing and is disrespectful for many of us who work hard to make content verifiable. --Lemongirl942 (talk) 17:06, 3 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Lemongirl942: I understand that everyone here is a volunteer but that doesn't stop certain groups trying to take the ideals of Wikipedia and make it into an exclusive community where they feel they own the site simply because they contribute and feel the new people or those with less frequent contributions are somehow less worthy and should be challenged at every turn. I have read a fair bit about the deletionists on here. Regarding the article we are discussing...By process of elimination the Grammy could only be nominated either for album of the year or best rap album of the year. Would it be OK to include the IMDB reference in support of the LA Times article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Smush123 (talkcontribs) 17:18, 3 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Merge?[edit]

I think Chris Rivers should be merged to this article. Despite being a well-written article, he doesn't really seem to be notable outside of his father; sure, he makes music, but none of his albums or singles have ever charted. Erpert blah, blah, blah... 13:30, 19 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It might make more sense to have this discussion on that page? But I oppose the merge. His article is a step above a stub and there's nothing wrong with that, but if he's notable enough at all he's notable enough to have his own page. If you think the content is only enough to be merged to the page of his father, then I'd argue that the article should just be deleted, because it has nothing to do with Pun. He's been dead almost 20 years, so we don't need to update this page with exploits and record releases of his son for who knows how long. JesseRafe (talk) 13:55, 19 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I actually don't disagree with your notion about this discussion being on Rivers' article's talk page, but for whatever reason the {{mergeto}} template is linked to the talk page of the article it was placed on. Erpert blah, blah, blah... 15:12, 19 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • Oppose merge as he has enough coverage in reliable sources to be independently notable and merging here would be out of place in my view, thanks Atlantic306 (talk) 15:30, 19 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
