From a factual standpoint, is it correct to say the CIC is composed of 12 or 13 members? Really, this comes down to asking if UIC and UIUC are separate institutions. --Cumulant 18:58, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The CIC commercial that airs on the Big Ten Network lists 12 institutions, possibly assuming that UIUC and UIC are considered branches of the same university system. I don't think there's much mention of Illinois-Chicago on the website either, but my guess is that they are still considered part of the University of Illinois system. 24.140.36.207 (talk) 04:27, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would agree with you. Illinois-Chicago is part of the entire University of Illinois system and their campus gets used for events from what I hear, but they're still like UIUC in terms of being branches. Frank12 (talk) 02:54, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I changed the page since the CIC site lists governance by thirteen provosts. If membership were by university system, then UIC and UIUC would share one vote -- instead of each having their own vote.--Cumulant (talk) 04:19, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Illinois-Chicago and Wisconsin-Milwaukee[edit]

So the question is, since the CIC's website lists only 12 schools (one for the entire University of Illinois system), how does the CIC perceive Illinois-Chicago in terms of membership? Separate, or part of the University of Illinois system based in Champaign-Urbana?

Also, I can't find anything stating so, but apparently UW-Milwaukee is an affiliate member, so I'm looking for confirmation of that and if any other schools or branch campuses can claim that distinction as well. Just so this all gets cleared up. Frank12

There are 12 CIC members. There are other campuses (branches of the state systems such as UIC, UW-Milwaukee, IUPUI) who participate in select CIC activities, but they are not considered members. Lwbleill (talk) 02:22, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, that's what I thought since I can't find anything on their site that lists anyone other than the Big Ten + U of C as members. I'm sure the same goes for their branch campuses as well. Frank12
Membership was clarified in May of 2011 when the CIC admitted the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as a member and removed the University of Illinois at Chicago as a guest member. Since UIC did more research than Nebraska (Nebraska was expelled from the Association of American Universities in May), the research/pervasiveness stats for the CIC are now too high and should be updated when new data are available--Cumulant (talk) 20:20, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
