Name change coming: Biggby Coffee[edit]

Beaner's announced this week that it will be changing its name to Biggby Coffee, from the "inside out": first its cups, napkins, coffee packages, etc., and ultimately the name of its stores. This addresses a concern that the term "beaner" has a derogatory meaning for many Hispanics. I'm not Hispanic, but where I grew up in Los Angeles the term was definitely derogatory toward Mexican-Americans there, and as a resident of East Lansing I've always been annoyed by the name here since the opening of the very first store on Grand River Ave. near the MSU campus. I think the founders were your typical Midwest parochials or innocents who just didn't know that this was a nasty name; but they've now wised up and are doing the right thing. So I really welcome the change of names. Not to mention, it will help the company to expand its franchise base nationally.--Mack2 16:28, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's asinine. Expansion[edit]

I think the company's expansion ambition -- achieving 250 stores by 2010 -- is so unrealistic at this time, that the text needed a brief comment. Only 110 stores are listed on its website as of June 8, 2009. The recession has probably taken a toll on the expansion plans.--Mack2 (talk) 13:22, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Missing info: Where beans from? Fair traded? Where roasted?[edit]

Since Bigby's sells its coffee both in its franchised stores and in some retail outlets, a question that should be addressed is where the beans are from, where are they roasted, how distributed? Also, are the beans "fair trade coffee?" I think I know the answer to the last question, because although I like Bigby coffee a lot at their franchises I won't buy it in packages because I have good fair trade alternatives.Mack2 (talk) 06:15, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
