Article issues[edit]

This article has a number of issues:

  • Conflict of interest. This article was created by, and most material edits have been made by, a user account that appears to be related to the subject. Please see the policy on this WP:COI.
  • Notability. The claims of accomplishment aren't put in any kind of context and are not backed up by references (see next point).
  • References. Of the three references, two of them are from related entities--the publisher of the magazine that is part of the initiative, and the bicycle company that is part of the initiative. The third is from worldchanging.com, a blog that ranks lower than 1,000 on Technorati.

Now I'm not saying this is not a valuable or worthy organization. I am simply stating something that should be uncontroversial for any unrelated party that this article fails a number of key requirements of an encyclopedia article, and should be improved. I have not tagged it for deletion (speedy or otherwise), but will continue to monitor it and hope that it can be improved to the point where that would not be an appropriate action (it would be now). An editor (who has few edits outside of this topic) has removed the tags, despite the minimal additional referencing. Please gain consensus here, or reference the article appropriately with reliable sources before removing the tags again. Bongomatic 09:55, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Wizzy 11:07, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

References now include (in addition to the Bicycling articles and press release organizations):

I hope that is sufficient. -AndrewDressel (talk) 15:18, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Current status[edit]

It is currently claimed that "in 2013 Bike Town Africa incorporated as a stand-alone 501(c)3 organization in the United States (final IRS status pending)," but no source has been provided. Meanwhile the web presence of Bike Town Africa still gives the impression that it is defunct. Do they have a new website or any other indication of recent activities? -AndrewDressel (talk) 11:36, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
