deletions[edit]

the source used reflects true German losses, and their deletion, excused as "intricate detail" is unacceptable. The losses are relevant to the claims made by this pilot. 194.33.196.3 (talk) 13:58, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree; I reverted your changes as being mostly intricate detail. For example, what is the purpose of identifying Peter Goring as the shot down pilot? The original text didn't mention him and from your additions, it seems as though Crawford-Compton didn't shoot him down either so what is the relevance to this article? Also sources should be properly identified - what is Caldwell, and the War Diaries? They aren't listed in the references section. You can expect a bit of scrutiny of your edits when making changes to an article and not maintaining the existing citation and referencing formats. I will concede that less definitive language could be used in a couple of places and have made some changes in this regard. Zawed (talk) 18:59, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'll take a look at this one shortly. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 20:33, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Prelim[edit]

  • No relevant duplicate links
  • Images correctly licensed
  • Article is stable
  • Earwig reports copyvio unlikely

Lede and infobox[edit]

  • We seem to usually hyphenate air vice-marshal?
  • Add No. 145 Wing to the infobox commands?
  • I think you're brushing over his post-war career a little too much - maybe a sentence or two more about Suez and 22 Group?
  • Could add England as place of death in infobox
  • Main text doesn't seem to mention his Legion of Honour

Early life[edit]

  • "There Crawford-Compton gained"

Second World War[edit]

  • Suggest mentioning the Second World War itself outside of headings at least once
  • "as a probable kill"
  • "he claimed another Bf 109 as a probable" do you have the date? Currently very vague!
  • The first five paragraphs all begin with dates, suggest switching this up a bit
  • "Another Bf 109 was reported as damaged" by Crawford-Compton or the squadron?
  • "during the engagement"
  • "and this meant he missed" > "and meant he missed"
  • You seem to be avoiding mentioning his promotions?! There's no clear mention of any rank between pilot officer and group captain
  • Was No. 64 Squadron also flying Spitfires?
  • Link Clères?
  • "while flying with No. 122 Squadron was credited with damaging a Bf 109" Do we know when?
  • "operations of the RAF"
  • "Crawford-Compton was appointed wing commander"
  • "and on 9 July, Crawford-Compton destroyed"
  • Clarify command of the wing for me? Some wording in the lede and main text suggest it's his command, but he only commanded the flying part of the wing, i.e. did have an officer above him in command of the wing as a whole?

Later life[edit]

  • "remained in his acting rank" Per one of my previous comment, I'm not sure what his rank actually was by this point!
  • The Gazette has him already as acting AVM at the time of his promotion?
  • What was he doing after Suez and before Cyprus?
  • A word or two on what No. 22 Group was doing/equipped with?

@Zawed: Hi, you'll probably be shocked to learn I didn't actually forget about this! Comments above. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 19:24, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
