Untitled[edit]

Someone needs to include an item about Bill Graham's nightclub that he opened on Columbus Avenue in San Francisco back in the early 80's. The place was called Wolfgang's (not to be confused with Wolfgang's Vault). StevenHW 09:29, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I thought that stevie ray vaughan also died in the helecopter crash?

Bill Graham Presents[edit]

I noticed the link for Bill Graham Presents just comes right back to this article. So I guess there's no article for the company? And apparently there isn't one for Another Planet Entertainment either. Oh Wikipedians, you love so much to edit articles into oblivion and lord over them like maniacs, please if you ever get bored, make an article for Bill Graham's business! My argument why it needs its own article? It still exists, and Bill doesn't, the story doesn't end with him. There is a legacy still in the bay area, with all his old friends and coworkers to this day. Personally I've been trying to figure out who I work for. My t-shirt says NES (National Event Services), We call ourselves NES West, but I'm really working for all the old Bill Graham people, and the contracts Another Planet claims to hold, are the concerts I've been working, so am I also an Another Planet employee? Am I outsourced? What am I and why is my company staffed by old Graham employees, working the same venues, and some of the same artists, but the company name only exists on t-shirts? Seems that the Posthumous is a bit spammy as it's blatantly promoting the new winterland production company.

Side note about Bill Graham: In the early eighties I had a sales job selling office equipment to business from Marin through Sonoma counties. I stumbled into Bill's Petaluma office one day early in the summer and he immediately treated me as I was a long time friend. He had a new folder on his desk that he'd just labeled "Nubes in the News". My curiosity was up and I asked him what that meant. He showed me.

Inside the folder he had the cover page of the local Santa Rosa paper. On the cover was a picture of a attractive soaking wet girl coming out of the water at a popular swimming spot in Santa Rosa with some headline about the changing weather. It was obvious by the picture that the water was cold (get my drift?)

And thus "Nubes in the News". Every desk I've ever had and every computer that I've ever set up files on has since had a folder called "Nubes in the News".

Bill Graham was a nice guy and I'm glad to have had a story to tell about him.

problems in Death Section[edit]

BG was persuaded by the bass player not to take the helicopter; the helicopter crashed; BG was killed. That's a non sequitur ('It does not follow'.) Can someone clean this up? (JM, Nov 06.)

Obvious missing reference?[edit]

I'm not particularly a fan of or knowledgeable about either, but whilst reading Lenny Bruce's entry I read that Bill Graham was the promoter of Lenny's last ever series of shows - and therefore of Bruce's last ever performance (just five weeks before the comedian's death). There's even a poster [1] for the event right here on wikipedia. Surely this info is relevant to the Bill Graham page, perhaps as part of the "involved in the counter-culture" section? Sisters[edit]

Graham's mother died in Auschwitz. Graham had four sisters, Rita, Evelyn, Sonja, Ester and Tolla (Tanya). His sister Ester survived Auschwitz.

Location of Crash[edit]

For what it's worth, here is bit more detail about the location of the helicopter crash killing the Graham party: (1) it was located at point where the counties of Sonoma, Napa and Solano meet (2) it is also near the intersection of a Hwy 37 bridge crossing over Sonoma Creek

You are correct, Joe. He did not die in Vallejo per se, but about 6.6 miles west of the Vallejo city limits, in an unpopulated wetlands area. Currently, there is a wildlife viewing area right next to the replaced electric tower where the helicopter crashed. The parking area is on westbound Highway 37 and a short trail leads under the bridge over Sonoma Creek and within a few yards of the crash site, which is on the south side of the highway. I was traveling from Marin County to Sacramento the morning after the crash, and had to detour through Carneros since Highway 37 was closed. A few days later, I saw the twisted tower and later saw the new one rebuilt. I have driven by at least a thousand times in the past 22 years, often thinking of Bill. I stopped there this morning to pay my respects. Sadly, there is no mention of Bill at the site, just some educational plaques about local wildlife. Bill had 5 sisters. Rita, Evelyn, Sonja, Ester, and Tolla. Ester is still alive and well at the age of 86. Bill's father was an engineer who died from trauma after falling from building at work. Reference #20 re: Billboard Magazine[edit]

Hi there: I'm a librarian and a patron asked me about reference 20 from this article, a 7/11/1966 Billboard Magazine article. My library has the microfilm of Billboard, and there is no 7/11/1966 issue. There are issues on 7/2, 9, 16, 23, and 30. We looked through all issues and found no Gleason article about Bill Graham.
